The son of Poseidon Triton and his other children

Poseidon is the master of the sea elements, one of the most famous and outstanding representatives of the Olympic deities of Ancient Greece. Often, it is customary to identify all water resources with this celestial or its analogue from Rome, Neptune. Such a position is not entirely appropriate: according to ancient mythology, the depths of the sea inhabited a multitude of fairy-tale creatures, whose power was also great enough.

To such characters, of course, is Triton, the son of Poseidon. Just like his father, he was considered the patron of the seas and rivers, managed the water element at his discretion. According to myths, he always appeared unexpectedly and with a shell in his hands. With its help, he fearlessly controlled the waves, causing severe storms to spiral, or vice versa, pacified them. During the heavy battles of the Olympic gods with the Titans, he was able to wrap some of them in a disgraceful escape, issuing powerful shells and intimidating sounds with a shell. The Triton symbols include the family trident.

His name is associated with many legends, the most interesting of which are myths about the Argonauts or punishment of the insolent daredevil Misen.

The brave Argonauts, caught in a fierce storm, were thrown into the Libyan Desert. To survive and get out of it, the travelers had to cross the dangerous path to the Tritonius Lake with a ship on their hands. In order to get out again to the sea, they had to bring to Triton a tripod of copper. The son of Poseidon appeared before them in human guise, accepted the gift and indicated the right direction. In addition, he presented courageous travelers with a clod of earth that, when dropped into the sea, turned into a beautiful island.

Not only did Triton help people. The son of Poseidon could and cruelly punish the proud. So it was with Misen of Troy. His speech that he allegedly is the best trumpeter on the whole Earth and even the gods are inferior to him, reached Triton. Rising from the depths of the sea, with the help of his shell, he issued such powerful sounds that the fugitive simply washed into the water.

The Greeks often portrayed him as a human fish. The upper part of the body of the son of Poseidon resembled a man, but his legs grew into a fish tail.

Triton was born from the union of Poseidon and the beautiful Nereid of Amphitrite. God Poseidon, like his brother, Zeus the Thunderer, was a rare lover. In addition to Triton, he had many children. The Greeks counted Amik, Antei, the twins Ota and Efialta, even the winged horse Pegasus.

The remaining children of Poseidon were not as well known as Triton. Legends and myths left only brief references to them. So, Amik died at the hands of one of the Argonauts in a fistfight.

Anteus is a huge giant from Libya, born of the goddess of the Earth from Poseidon. He was famous for being an invincible and not knowing pity fighter. He drew his strength from my mother earth, touching her during the next battle. He took death from the famous Hercules, who was able to unravel his cunning.

Separately in this row is Pegasus, who does not have a human face, but appears in the image of a horse. Most of the time he spent surrounded by beautiful nymphs on top of Mount Parnassus. Like other children of Poseidon, Pegasus was not immortal, but on the last day of his life he was awarded a great honor from Zeus and turned into a constellation.
