The patterns are the indispensable tools of any tailor

Sewing is a technologically complex and multi-stage process of creating things. The key task for a tailor is not so much to sew a product, how to manage to design it, creating a qualitative pattern. At venerable professionals, this process is easy and smooth due to the great experience in their business and because they have irreplaceable helpers - curves. These are ready-made templates, with which you can quickly and correctly make a pattern.

What is a template?

The patterns are special tools that tailors use to facilitate the design, modeling and construction of the pattern, its details. Their main function is to measure the contour of a curve line in the drawings with subsequent correction. To avoid special terminology and to give a more understandable explanation to this subject, it can be said that patterns are already ready templates for building a basic pattern of the future product or its individual elements. So, the greatest difficulty in making a drawing for designers-designers is often the marking of the curved lines of the armhole, shoulder, pellet, neck and others. That's why the patterns are created.

In sewing, this term is also called template patterns, the so-called basic patterns. These are the variants of the most common models of products, the details of which are being finalized in the course of work by the tailor, depending on the style of the clothes and the wishes of the client.

Types of curves

There are several types of sewing patterns. First of all, these are instruments of constant or variable curvature. In the first case, the tool is a ruler without a scale and a markup with one or more curved lines, with which the circles in the drawings are arranged. Curves of variable curvature are special angles with a scale and an additional device that helps selectively lower or raise the curve to fit a specific model. Most often in such tools, millimeter markings are provided, helping to fit the part in size.

The patterns for sewing clothes are already ready-made patterns of the product, and only the basic basic drawing of the human body on paper. The latter is performed in accordance with the measurements taken. It is on the basis of the basic template that the final versions of models for cutting are created. There are also working patterns for tailoring. They are constructed on the basis of the features of a particular model, a standard dimensional mesh, according to individual customer measurements.

Basic cutting tools

Professional patterns are high-precision tools, through which a tailor can perform several functions at once. The main and most significant is the competent and accurate design of the drawing for the clothing model. However, even after creating the pattern, laying the curve aside early. It can be useful in its correction, making corrections after the first fitting, and also during the fitting of the product according to the figure.

Another area of use of the tailor tool is the transfer of ready-made patterns (for example, from magazines or downloaded from specialized websites) to paper. Templates presented in periodicals are also patterns, the size of which is strongly averaged. With the help of tools cutter can adjust the pattern to the desired parameters.

Where can I get a template?

Before beginning tailors, there is often a reasonable question about where to take the patterns of clothing. Especially if the sewing process is put on the conveyor, and the master simply does not have enough time to do the patterns each time by hand. Much easier and more efficient to adjust to the desired size and style is a ready-made sample, created on the basis of patterns. This tool can be purchased at specialized sewing shops.

Retail outlets offer their customers several of its varieties, the most popular ones for drawing armholes and sleeves, universal. In the first case we are talking about a small tool reminiscent of the shape of a golf club. The inner side of this pattern is smooth, but the outer one is a convex line, which ends in a wide circle. Over the entire length of the arc, a scaling scale is applied, which greatly simplifies the work of the designer.

A universal tailor's pattern is a corner with a millimeter, inside which one or several curves of different length and depth are provided. In some models, there are even special slots for making buttonholes. In addition, patterns with a large number of arcs and curves of variable radius are realized.

Alternative

The price of a simple plastic pattern in specialized sewing shops starts from a thousand rubles. More advanced models can cost 2-3 thousand, for a professional tool of high quality will have to pay even more.

However, you can always cheat and buy the usual drawing patterns that are sold in stationery stores and build patterns for them. Another option and the opportunity not to spend money on an expensive tailor's tool is hand-made creation of patterns. It is enough to build a qualitative pattern on the necessary parameters once, transfer it to a thick cardboard or paper (for this glossy magazine covers fit well) and use the resulting template in the future.
