The Little Earth. Novorossiysk and its history

Visiting the Black Sea coast for many of us is connected only with summer beach rest, relaxation and unobtrusive entertainment. However, the neighborhoods of cities in this region include many interesting places. Visiting them, you can learn more about the history of the country. One of them is the memorial "The Lesser Land". Novorossiysk, in the vicinity of which it is located, can not be called the most popular city for beach rest. But excursions to the memorial are arranged from many resort villages. You can reach the place by car or public transport. It is located directly on the outskirts of Novorossiysk.

What will the memorial "The Lesser Land" tell visitors about? Novorossiysk during the Great Patriotic War was captured by the enemies. But on a small stretch of land, Soviet troops held a long heroic defense, which later allowed to develop a counteroffensive and liberate the city. This victory caused considerable damage to the enemy and weakened his strength. Historians agree that the liberation of Novorossiysk was one of the important stages in the battle for the freedom of the Caucasus. After that, our troops were able to conduct powerful offensive operations.

A small piece of land has an area of less than 30 square meters. Km. But it was his Soviet troops that could win in the course of a fierce battle in February 1943. Defense lasted as much as 225 days (from February 4 to September 16, 1943), after which the bridgehead became the starting point for the offensive and helped liberate Novorossiysk. The Memorial "Small Earth" is a symbol of courage, courage and cohesion of the Russian people.

At the moment, visitors have access to the Museum of Military Equipment and the Gallery of Glory, which are located inside the monument. The composition itself is made in the form of a combat ship, on which the heroic landing of the sea assault was conducted under the direction of Ts .L. Kunikov. The dynamic image is supplemented by bas-reliefs depicting sailors and soldiers.

Memorial "Small Land" (Novorossiysk) includes the Gallery of Glory, which houses bas-reliefs of Heroes of the Soviet Union, plaques of memory with instructions from regiments and troops taking part in battles for the city. In the center of the gallery there is a sculptural composition with a mosaic panel, where the oath of fighters is written, and in the capsule "Heart" - the names of the dead.

The entire territory of the memorial is protected and is under special protection of the state. Here fragments of guns, ditches and trenches, fortifications and command posts remain.

In order to see this place with its own eyes and honor the memory of the deceased, tourists visit the memorial "The Lesser Land". Novorossiysk, whose map necessarily contains an indication of the location of the bridgehead, often serves as a starting point for this journey.

The memorial gained special popularity in the Soviet Union after the publication of the book by Leonid Brezhnev. His military memoirs, he published in 1978 and called "The Little Land." Novorossiysk still keeps the memory of the fighting on the bridgehead, the memories of which were described by Brezhnev in this book, which disperse in millions of copies throughout the country.
