The image of Barbara in the play "Storm". Comparative characteristics of Katerina and Barbara

Varvara Kabanova is one of several main characters in the famous drama of A. Ostrovsky "The Storm". According to the story, Varvara lives in the city of Kalinova, she does not like many orders in this city, but she does not strive to fight them, she has learned to live in her own way, simply adapting to other people's rules. The image of Barbara in the play "Storm" very quickly attracts the attention of the reader. This girl has a strong and persistent nature, and, despite the fact that she does not try to confront her mother, she is not going to indulge her.

What is she like - Varvara?

Varya is a realistic person, she perfectly understands that her destiny depends only on herself. This image of Barbara in the play "Thunderstorm" differs significantly from the image of the dreamy Catherine. Varvara understands that the life that people live in her city is no longer relevant, so she is not afraid to criticize her mother's words. This emphasizes her mind and temper.

Further in the play before the reader even more revealing are such traits of Vary's character as thought and insight. She easily guesses that married Katerina is missing a stranger. And while she has not yet fully understood her desires, Varya has already understood everything and started making plans.

Varvara is a fairly pragmatic girl. She understands that there is no need to expect neither sympathy nor compassion from others, and even more unquestioningly fulfill other people's orders. But at the same time she manages not to enter into an open conflict with others, creating the appearance of decency.

Realistic Barbarian

The image of Barbara in the play "Storm" draws attention to its realism. Varya does not take someone else's words to heart, noticing the hypocrisy and deception in them. This is well manifested in the moment when a kind of crazy lady appears before Varya and Katerina, who prophesies to the girls for God's punishment for all their sins. While Katerina is overcome with fright and incomprehensible anxiety after what she heard, Varvara does not worry about it at all. Maybe that's why it's much easier for her in the world.

But apart from everything, Vary can not be said that she is a man "with a heart of stone." Varya is capable of pity, compassion and understanding. The girl sincerely cares about her sister-in-law Katerina, wishing her only good and understanding her feelings.

We can say that Varia is well versed in what is happening and in the people around her. She can not understand only the dreamy Katerina, who, in her opinion, is so different from the others.

Katerina and Varvara

Katerina and Varvara in the drama of A. N. Ostrovsky "Thunderstorm" differ significantly from each other not only by their appearance, but also by their character and outlook. Katerina is a principled, sincere and honest character. This heroine can not deceive and is not capable of falseness. She takes everything at face value, so it is very hard for her to live not only in the Kabanovs' family, but also in the city of Kalinove. Katerina is a person who does not change her rules, does not go against her principles, can not live long in captivity.

It's quite another thing - Varvara. She is not superstitious, she is not afraid of anything. Varya is able not only to live by other people's rules, but also to violate them without causing a single conflict. Varvara is a man who has learned to live in the world that has developed around him.

Two opposites

Varvara is full of determination, unlike her sister-in-law Katerina. She realistically assesses the unworthy nature of her brother and sees nothing wrong with what Katerina is changing to him. If Varya was in her place, she would not have confessed to this treason to anyone, but Katerina is not able to keep silent, she tells her husband everything. Is it possible to consider Varya vile or cynical? You can not say anything, because it was this kind of character that helped her cope with the conditions in which she grew up.

This is the comparative characteristic of the images. Katerina and Varvara in the drama "Thunderstorm" are, as it were, opposing worlds that intersect each other. With the help of these two girls, the author tried to show different types of people, their behavior, strengths and weaknesses.

Pros and cons of Barbara's character

A lot of different qualities combined the image of Barbara. In the play "Thunderstorm" she is a very realistic girl, even too much. It's good or bad to judge the reader. Also Varya is a straightforward, but at the same time a cunning girl. It collected a large number of beautiful character traits, but the atmosphere of falsehood and deception in the parents' house left its imprint on her character. "You can do everything, if only no one knew" - this is the life position of the heroine.

The plan of the image of Varvara from the play "Storm" carries in itself not only her character traits, but her worldview, her behavior in various situations, her mistakes.

Varvara is much smarter and more experienced than Katerina. Although the latter - a married woman. Varya is much better versed in life.
