"The Apology of Socrates" is the teacher's acquittal, recorded by an enthusiastic student

The writing of Plato "The Apology of Socrates", perhaps, does not convey his speech in the Athenian court for certain. Most likely, this most valuable document is only an artistically-stylized interpretation of it. After all, the trial in Athens was very loud, and Plato was present only as a disciple of Socrates and a close friend of his. Therefore, it is impossible to expect him to be well informed about all the events of this court.

It is likely that the "Apology of Socrates" is written, first of all, from the desire to rehabilitate before the descendants and contemporaries of the accused and executed not at all the merit of the teacher. In addition, Plato is not the only author who gave the descendants his speech at the trial. Known are the apologies of Socrates, for example, Xenophon of Athenian, Theon of Antioch, Diagen and other authors who portrayed the executed philosopher as a highly moral person and an outstanding thinker.

Socrates is the person who had the greatest influence on Plato's world view, therefore it is possible to say with certainty that the whole theory of Platonism is only the development of the ideas and scientific views of his teacher, which opened a new era in the history of ancient philosophy.

The great merit of Socrates lies in the fact that he was able to move from cosmology to the problems of concrete people and began to explore the human mind. At that time it was a kind of revolution in the world of philosophy, so her hero was to become a victim, sprinkling his blood with new ideas.

"The Apology of Socrates" is an analysis of his desire to find clarity in human understanding, to preserve the best, to destroy what is worse. Contemporaries were not ready to accept these ideas. Greece of that time did not yet know the criticism. He caused horror, inspired fear, so the philosopher was blamed for atheism, and the Athenian court charged him with undermining state power, corrupting youth and even worshiping unknown gods.

Delighted and saw in Socrates the living symbol of the new philosophy of his disciple Plato. "The Apology of Socrates" conveys to us this attitude of the author, the essence of the ideas of the accused and the image of an outstanding thinker, as the writer himself knew. In this work he put into the mouth of Socrates a fiery speech saturated with new philosophical ideas, consisting of three parts. The work is very rich both from the artistic and from the logical point of view.

Note that only the "Apology of Socrates" is an essay written not in the form of a dialogue, like all other works of Plato. The artistic side of the composition is very high. It conveys to us the remarkable image of an unyielding and intelligent man, with dignity and dignity reflecting the miserable accusations of people who undeservedly sentenced him to death.

Despite the fact that in the composition of these accusations there is no, its logical chain is constructed in such a way that it is easy to understand them and to draw conclusions that all of them are only general phrases. If there were concrete facts in the accusations, then the "Apology of Socrates" would contain criticism of a crushing nature, convincing prosecutors of their wrongness. We see in this work only the desire to convince the public of the correctness of their ideas.
