The image of a business person or How to make a favorable impression

The phrase "an excellent image", "make an image" and "maintain an image" is already quite stably rooted in our native language. Did you ever have to think about what they really mean?

1. The image of personality: the concept and functions

Those who speak English can immediately answer that the monotonous word "image" has two variants of translation into Russian: 1. "image"; 2. "The idol."

According to modern linguists, the first meaning was artificially created by representatives of the media. The second, it seems to me, most accurately reflects the whole essence, because the desire to have a high status at times is very much like idolatry.

The functions of the modern image can be conditionally divided into two main types: holistic and technocratic, each of which has its own subspecies and performs certain roles.

Holistic functions:

  • Personal-exalting. It is manifested in the event that a certain aura of attractiveness is created around the individual person, as a result of which the given subject becomes more in demand and receives greater freedom and the right to show his best qualities.
  • Creating comfortable interpersonal relationships. As a rule, charisma can bring to the community its share of goodwill and sympathy, which means that it is automatically displayed at the moral measure of tact and tolerance.
  • The image of a business person also presupposes the presence of a psychotherapeutic function. Its essence is that a person, realizing his individual uniqueness, becomes more communicative and acquires greater self-confidence.

Technological functions:

  • Interpersonal adaptation. The ability to quickly become part of the necessary social environment and, drawing attention to one's own person, establish friendly or friendly relations in the shortest possible time.
  • Manifestation of both business and personal qualities. A favorable image shows a person in a more favorable light. It is these features that evoke sympathy and good disposition.
  • The so-called blackout of the negative. From lacks can be distracted by means of a hairdress, a make-up, accessories, design of clothes.
  • Overcoming age limits. The one who successfully and consciously chooses a model of behavior, quite comfortably can feel among people of different ages, social positions and professional statuses.

2. What is the difference between an image and a business reputation

I propose to dot all the "i". Under the image, as a rule, understand the image of a certain person, and it is created exclusively by artificial means.

But business reputation, in turn, is a process, the formation of which can take several years. It reflects the real state of affairs of a businessman or a lady, which is confirmed by the achievement of financial or social success.

I would say that the image is a kind of fiction that is used in business circles with great success in order to be as profitable as possible to represent the person.

Undoubtedly, there are situations when a positive image of a business person and his business reputation at a certain moment become equivalent and in fact describe the real state of things. However, even in this case, the image can only be viewed as an artificially prepared business tool.

3. How to create the image of a business person

For those who firmly decided to succeed in the business, it is necessary to adhere to the main principles:

  • Always shake hands with your opponent.
  • Be able to draw up a resume, cover letters and all the numerous business documents.
  • It is free to speak in at least one foreign language.
  • Be able to dictate the correct email address or Skype.
  • Put your hands in order and do a regular manicure.
  • Early warning of late arrival.
  • It is ideal to choose a business suit.
  • Maintain a daily schedule.
  • Communicate with computers at the advanced user level.
  • Memorize memorable dates in the life of colleagues.
  • Train the ability to disconnect from what is happening and quickly focus on the necessary
  • Set yourself specific goals.
