The history of the creation of "Thunderstorms" Ostrovsky. Analysis of the work "Thunderstorm"

"Thunderstorm" A.N. Ostrovsky is a significant and powerful work of Russian literature of the second half of the nineteenth century. It attracts attention to the most interesting events taking place in the play, and its uneasy problems. The drama itself has been screened many times, enjoyed considerable success with the audience. The image of the city of Kalinov, in which the action takes place, symbolizes an enchanted vicious circle from which it is impossible to escape without having wound hearts and souls.

History of Ostrovsky's "Thunderstorms"

Ivan Turgenev spoke about this work very positively, with special trepidation and enthusiasm, stressed the enormous writer's talent of Alexander Ostrovsky. The history of the creation of Ostrovsky's "Thunderstorms" goes back to the socio-political situation in the country during the fifties and sixties of the 19th century. This was a turning point in history and social thought. In that period, more and more literature of accusatory nature began to appear, and the creativity of A.N. Ostrovsky had to time. The themes that were then popular and aroused considerable controversy: serfdom, the status of women in society and the intelligentsia of the intelligentsia. A.N. Ostrovsky in The Storm raises an equally relevant topic - home tyranny, the domination of money over life and the meaning of man.

The year 1859 is considered the year of writing the drama, at the same time the first plays were staged in the best theaters in Moscow and St. Petersburg. In print, the work appeared a year later (1860). The history of the creation of Ostrovsky's "Thunderstorms" shows that the work most fully reflected the social and political thought of that time.

The meaning of the name

If we turn to the semantic load of the drama, then its name reflects the basic state of the main characters. The whole city of Kalinov lives in tension, which also happens when expecting a thunderstorm as a natural phenomenon: everywhere there is stuffiness, there is not enough fresh air. The life of the urban inhabitants is also so painful: many are in a depressed state, under the yoke of domestic tyranny. A thunderstorm should bring relief and release. Heroes are looking for a way out of a difficult situation, but they do not know how to act independently, listen to the voice of their own heart. In the depiction of such characters, A.N. Ostrovsky (The Storm). The history of the drama emphasizes the impossibility of solving the problem peacefully and the futility of such attempts.

Compositional and ideological component

The drama consists of five acts, and ten days pass between the third and the fourth actions. The whole play can be divided into four parts: a painful expectation, accompanied by languor and suffering, preparation for the climax, culmination, denouement. A lot of disputes among the researchers cause the death of Katerina. Would she be able to continue living in the society that surrounded her, or not? The story of the creation of Ostrovsky's "Thunderstorms" proves that the author wanted to show a strong personality capable of rising above the circumstances of his own life, therefore he gives the main heroine the integrity of nature, the unbending will and the strength of spirit.

Indeed, the death of Catherine is a foregone conclusion. If she did not die by her own decision, she would be crushed by the cruel customs that reign in the city of Kalinov. She would have to break her freedom-loving nature and adjust herself to the orders of society. All her inner being and soul were opposed to these orders. Therefore, death for her becomes an escape, a deliverance from oppressive suffering and fear. The heart of Catherine is a free bird, which she lets go free.

Katerina

Privately draws a difficult picture of the life of the main character Ostrovsky (The Storm). An analysis of this work shows that Katerina lived in a loving family before marriage, where everyone respected each other's personal choice and freedom. With her marriage, Katerina lost contact with her family and lost her freedom. Because she is so lonely and sick in the house of the Kabanovs, because she can not get used to his foundations, she remembers memories of the past: "Was I that way? I lived, I did not grieve about anything, like a bird in the wild! "

Is the main character strong or weak? Did she have a choice? What was the decisive event that led her to commit suicide? The inability to change one's life, to be close to a loved one, inability to find a way out of this situation, own desire for freedom led her to this action. We see that suicide is committed from despair, it is not a deliberate and cold-blooded decision, but it is intentional. In relation to herself, her dreams, the heroine makes a weakness, while the society that condemns her, she did not submit and committed suicide by emphasizing her personality of character.

"The Dark Kingdom"

This includes representatives of the old society with its hard moral foundations. This is Savel Prokofievich Dikoy, Marfa Ignatyevna Kabanova. These people will never change: they are so ingrained in old habits and worldview that they find the meaning of life in teaching young people, scolding modern mores.

The wild man enjoys tyrannizing his family: no one dares to say a word to him. He is displeased with everything, and no one can please him. Kabanov (Kabanikha) imposes his will on his son and daughter-in-law, categorically refuses to accept someone else's point of view, different from his own.

Tikhon Kabanov

The son of Martha Ignatievna Kabanova, a weak and weak-willed person. From mamenkogo words not a step away, an independent decision can not take. Defenseless, cowardly draws his Ostrovsky. "Thunderstorm", a character's characteristic testifies to this, emphasizes the adaptive qualities of Tikhon's character and its complete dissolution under the will of the mother.

Varvara, Tikhon's sister

An unmarried girl, the daughter of Kabanova. Its motto is the statement: "Do what you want, but so that it's a shito-covered it was."

Especially it does not distinguish Ostrovsky. "Thunderstorm", the analysis of the work testifies to this, in every possible way opposes the voluntaristic nature of Varvara and the purity of the soul of Katerina. Varvara makes her cunning and freethinking, and Katerina prefers the truth in everything.

Boris

The nephew of the Wild, lives in his house out of mercy. The young guy is used to listening to the expression of displeasure and instruction of his uncle, but if you are careful, you can see how deeply hurt his reproaches of the Wild, how unpleasant are lies and hypocrisy. The inability of Boris to resist the will of the power of having a Wild can not be better emphasized by the work "Thunderstorm". Ostrovsky sympathizes with Boris. The natural delicacy of the hero does not allow him to argue with his uncle, to defend his point of view. One way or another, but Boris is also a victim of the cruel customs that prevail in the city of Kalinov.

Images in the "Thunderstorm" Ostrovsky Do not differ in their special variety: Kabanikh, Wild, Barbara, Tikhon, Boris - they can adapt as one. Some suppress, others obey. They are all opposed to Katerina - a young woman who retained the integrity of nature and strength of mind. Thus, it turns out to be very ambiguous Work "Thunderstorm". Ostrovsky justifies Katerina for her weakness in that she sacrifices her life, but endows her with courage and dedication. Not only a special case, but the death of Russia, its inability to live according to the old order that leads to collapse, is represented by the author.
