Hare cabbage and a stone rose - this is what this unusual plant is called. His varieties can be grown outdoors and at home on the window. Care for the juvenile is surprisingly simple. For this reason, experienced flower growers recommend to breed this unusual plant to beginners in this area.

Molodilo (flowers): species and varieties

Although young and called a flower, in fact it is an evergreen grass with magnificent villi, fleshy. It forms small rosettes, which make up to fifteen leaves.

Molodilo - flowers exceeding 25 cm in height. Looking at the photo below, name a flower that looks like a young one. In our opinion, the plant is very similar to a rosebud or a rare variety of ornamental cabbage. The plant blossoms only once, in the summer. Usually this happens in the third year of life, but the flowering lasts 2.5 months. The rest of the time the flower pleases with its unusual and very beautiful leaves: rounded or oblong, long and pointed.

Depending on the variety, the leaves can be painted brown, green, pink, red and even silver. Some species change their color at different times of the year. A rich color palette has appealed to modern landscape designers, and they successfully use this culture to decorate the territories of country houses and summer cottages.

Today, more than fifty species are known to be young. In natural conditions, the plant is found in the mountainous areas of Southern Europe, the Caucasus, and Southeast Asia. We present you the most popular of them.

Landing

Molodilo - flowers, the description of which can be found in our material, have an original look. Many believe that if the plant looks so unusual, then planting and caring for it are incredibly difficult. And this is a common misconception. Experienced growers note the extraordinary unpretentiousness of this plant.

For growing flowers, young in the open ground it is necessary:

  • Open sunny place;
  • Infertile, sandy, well water-permeable soil.

If these requirements are met, after planting the plant, you can forget about leaving. Molodilo much worse takes root on clayey heavy soils, does not tolerate excessive moisture and excessive fertilizer. Molodilo - flowers with an underdeveloped root system, so do not make large depressions when planting. Between large rosettes leave a distance of about 15 cm, between small - 5 cm.

After planting, the plants are watered. If you decide to grow young in an apartment, then at the bottom of the pot you need to pour drainage. In the soil you can add sawdust or sand. The main requirement for successful cultivation was the youngest in the apartment - a well-lit place (usually a window sill).

Care of the plant

Care of the plant is reduced to the release of weeds and rosettes, obsolete, as well as loosening the soil. The flowers were young, they practically do not need watering. Like most succulents, they accumulate moisture in the leaves. Every five years the young were in need of a transplant. You can easily determine that the plant needs this procedure: the rosettes will become much smaller.

Plants are contraindicated in dampness - the lower leaves rot from it. It is necessary to ensure that the water in the open ground in the spring does not stagnate. Nazim did not take refuge: the plant tolerates low temperatures well.

Top dressing

Constant fertilizer, especially organic, harms the plant. It loses its decorativeness, even the leaves can change color. Feeding is useful for young growth in the period of active growth. To do this, use a complex fertilizer for succulents.

In spring, during planting, you can add nitrogenous fertilizers to the soil, for example, ammonium nitrate (7-8 g per 1 sq. M.). It stimulates the growth of the plant.

Reproduction

If you are keen on growing young and decided to multiply the number of plants on the site, you can use two ways of reproduction:

  • Use child sockets;
  • Sow seeds.

They are sown, you can say, superficially, not deeper than 1 mm. The sowing time is February or March. Germinate seeds at a temperature of +20 ° C. Seedlings appear very quickly - on the fifth day. Seedlings should be protected from direct sunlight. On a permanent place, the young were planted in the middle of summer.

A faster, and therefore more popular method of reproduction - daughter outlets. They are separated from the mother plants in the spring, although you can do this in the summer. Large rosettes can be immediately planted in the open ground to a permanent place. Small before planting is grown on the ridges.

Molodilo: combination with other plants

Molodilo in a flower bed with other flowers (the photo you can see in this article) looks very impressive. Variety of varieties allows to use it in landscape design. It is perfectly combined with other ground cover plants: saxifrage, cleansing and others. With their help create magnificent variegated carpets. Effectively looks on one site and a combination of different types of young.

Very good compositions with flowers (phlox, for example). But when decorating a flower bed, it is necessary to remember one rule. Molodilo does not tolerate the neighborhood with lushly flowering plants that create a shadow undesirable for a stone rose. Best looked young on the Alpine hill. Often they are decorated with rockeries (decorative slides, built of stones).

You can plant this perennial along the garden paths. The variety of species of this plant, its simple maintenance allow even beginners to experiment with the design on their site.
