The flag of Bolivia and its history

Bolivia is a country of contradictions: in the bowels of the earth lie huge layers of minerals, but the country remains one of the poorest in the world. Despite this, Bolivia is fascinating at first sight. This country, located in the Southern Hemisphere, is multinational. It is here that 37 languages are considered official. In addition, the country is known for a huge number of revolutions. So, since 1825 there have been more than two hundred coups.

This is a country where you can stroll through the ancient cities of the Incas, see the Cordilleras, contemplate the beauty of the Uyuni salt desert and, of course, visit the jungle of the Amazon.

The official symbol of Bolivia was approved in 1851. The flag of Bolivia has the form of a rectangle with proportions of 22:15 (the ratio of length to width). As for the color palette, the flag of Bolivia is a traditional tricolor. The canvas is divided into 2 equal fields of red, yellow and dark green color. Red is the blood shed in the struggle for the freedom of the people of the country, yellow is the color of the Incas and memory of the vast layers of mineral resources, green is the hope for a bright future and the desire for development.

History of the flag of Bolivia

The flag of Bolivia changed several times. So, in the years 1825-1826. On the canvas was a horizontal red strip on which was depicted a five-pointed star of golden color. The star harmoniously fit into the wreath from the crossed branches. In the upper and lower parts of the canvas were bands of dark green color.

In 1826 a new version of the flag was developed and adopted, where the canvas was divided into 3 parts. The lower band was green, the central band was red, and the upper band was yellow. However, on October 31, 1851, the final version of the official symbol of the state was adopted. The national flag coincides with the civil flag, except that the coat of arms is not depicted on the civil flag. The military flag of the country depicts a green wreath of crossed branches.

Coat of arms of Bolivia

Bolivia boasts a beautiful coat of arms, which is depicted on the national flag. It is located in the center of the horizontal yellow strip. The coat of arms of Bolivia is an oval, in the center of which is depicted the Bolivian mountain of Potosi. Under the mountain there is an image of the main representative of the fauna of the country - alpaca. The emblem is enclosed in a frame of bright blue color.

Bolivia is an agrarian country, so the coat of arms depicts a breadfruit tree and a sheaf of wheat. The ax, the Phrygian cap, muskets, crossed cannons and six flags are located on the background of the coat of arms. Condor is the main bird of the Andes, so there is nothing surprising in that it is depicted on the coat of arms.
