The first months - what you need to know

The main sign of puberty girls - menarche, in other words, this is the first menstruation. This phenomenon indicates that a girl who has only recently played in the pupae can now become a mother, since her womb is already ready for fertilization.

When does the first menstrual period come?

As a rule, the sexual maturation of a girl comes from 9 to 12 years, depending on the characteristics of the body and heredity. The beginning of this process is characterized by the appearance of the first hairs in the armpits and pubic area and the growth of the mammary glands. And only after that come the first menstruation. In general, the preparation of the body for the menstrual cycle lasts about 2-3 years. With simple calculations, we can say that the first menstruation in girls can begin in 12-15 years. But deviations from the norm for a year or 2 in both directions are possible. In some cases this can be considered the norm, in some there is not. Therefore, to exclude or identify the causes of delayed sexual development, parents of girls should consult a doctor. But it is worth remembering that over the past decades the children's organism began to develop at an accelerated pace. For example, about 50 years ago the first menstruation occurred only in 15-16 years, and this was considered the norm, and not a pathology.

How long do the first months last?

The menstrual cycle is a period of time that lasts from the first day of the current menstruation to the first day of the next. As a rule, in healthy girls, it is 28 days, with the duration of the month should vary from 3 to 5 days. Of course, there are exceptions, when menstruation is only 2 days or, conversely, all 7.

When should I go to a gynecologist ?

Young girls need to carefully monitor the course of menstruation. If she noticed that the menstrual flow is somehow unusual, then she should go to the gynecologist. For example, in cases where:

  • Bleeding became more abundant than in previous times.
  • The duration of the monthly exceeds more than 7 days.
  • The duration of the cycle has changed: it has become shorter than 20 days or longer than 35 days.
  • Menstrual discharge became very scarce.
  • In the interval between menstruation appeared blood or smearing brown discharge.
  • There was a delay in menstruation.
  • There was severe or moderate pain in the abdomen during menstruation, especially if there were no such symptoms before.

Hygiene during menstruation

Menstrual blood is an environment where the multiplication of microbes occurs at a tremendous rate. When they get into the cervix, inflammation of the genital organs develops, which can lead to undesirable consequences. Therefore, during menstruation, it is necessary to change the pads as often as possible, and also to wash the genitals with boiled water and soap.

The use of tampons by young girls is possible only after consulting a gynecologist. Their change should be made at least every 3 hours, depending on the number of discharges. During menstruation take a shower at least 2 times - in the morning and in the evening.

Because of the risk of falling into the vagina during menstruation of various microbes, swimming in ponds and pools is undesirable. In general, physical education should be postponed for several days.
