This genre has existed for a long time, but it gained considerable popularity only in the last decade. History of creation

The author of the famous franchise is the American director of Israeli origin Oren Peli. 1 part of the "Paranormal phenomenon" had a record low budget and was withdrawn within 10 days. Oren Peli performed the work of a screenwriter, an operator and an editor. The film set was his own house. The commercial success of the picture is amazing: the profit exceeded the funds invested in production 13 thousand times. No project in the history of cinematography can compare in this respect with the film "Paranormal phenomenon." All parts removed later were less successful commercially. But the fantastic popularity of a low-budget horror film with a banal story has revived the genre of "found film." Producers and directors from different countries have created numerous imitations and parodies on this topic.

First part

The film, which marked the beginning of a whole series of stories about supernatural phenomena, was filmed in 2007. He tells the story of a young family who moved to a new home. Their names are Mika and Cathy. The couple have a habit of shooting their everyday life on a video camera. They are experiencing the influence of the demon that haunts Cathy from childhood. In the final, Mika dies, and the main character disappears. Despite the simplicity of the plot, the picture received positive reviews of film critics. Independent experimental film was an unexpected breakthrough and opened a list of all the parts of the "Paranormal phenomenon."

The second part

The next picture was filmed by director Tod Williams in 2010. According to the idea of the creators, it serves simultaneously as a prehistory, and a continuation of the first part. The main character is Christie, the sister of the heroine of the previous film. After the birth of her son, she begins to notice that in her house inexplicable things occur. Materials of the film are presented to the audience as video surveillance records. In some scenes, an amateur hand-held camera was additionally used. In the finale, demon-obsessed Cathy, who is believed to have disappeared, appears and abducts her nephew. Christie and her husband are dying.

The third part

The action takes place in 1988. The film tells about the childhood of Cathy and Christie, the heroines of the two previous parts. In the home of their parents, they first encounter a demon who will pursue them all their lives. Their alarmed family tries to fix strange phenomena on the video camera. The third series was created in 2011 by the directors Henry Joust and Eriel Schulman. They supplemented the list of all the parts of the "Paranormal Phenomenon" with the following film, filmed a few months later.

Fourth part

The central place in the plot is occupied by high school student Alex, who lives with her family in the suburbs. She encounters the actions of supernatural forces, behind which is missing in the first film Cathy. The painting contains a remarkable episode in which the characters try to discover in the darkness of the invisible demon using Kinect technology. The film, which continued the list of all parts of the "Paranormal phenomenon", received very restrained reviews of critics. In their opinion, the main drawback of the scenario is the lack of fresh ideas.

The fifth part ("Devil's Mark")

Director and screenwriter Christopher Landon in 2014 became the creator of the first spin-off series "Paranormal phenomenon." He decided not to break the tradition and make a film in the genre of "found film." The plot has no direct connection with the events of the previous parts. The picture tells the story of several high-school students who were attacked by members of a mysterious demonic cult. Comments from the audience indicate that the film breathed new life into the project, but his box office did not live up to expectations.

The sixth part ("Ghosts in 3D")

The premiere of the last film at the moment took place in 2015. He talks about mystical incidents in the life of a young family. After moving to a new home, the couple discovers a box of old video cassettes. On the records of 21-year-olds, the ritual that Cathy and Christie took to enter into a demonic cult was imprinted. After a while, the family is exposed to supernatural forces. The main goal of the demon is the 6-year-old daughter of the couple. In this picture, for the first time in the history of the franchise, 3D visual effects were used.

Perspectives of continuation

The audience unanimously recognizes the first film as the best part of the "Paranormal phenomenon". As is often the case with sequels, each new series of quality turns out to be worse than the previous one. The creators said that the sixth film should be final. But only on the interest of the audience depends on how many parts of the "Paranormal phenomenon" can be removed. It is difficult to believe that a project that is extremely successful in a commercial sense will not be continued.
