The drug "Ornidazole": instructions for use

The drug "Ornidazole" is an antiprotozoal drug belonging to the group of antibiotics, the active component (nitroimidazole-5) which has antimicrobial activity. The action of the drug is based on the reduction at the biolevel of the nitro group by transport proteins of anaerobic and protozoan microorganisms. As a result of the reduction process, the nitro group of the drug interacts with the DNA of microorganisms, which eventually leads to inhibition of the synthesis of nucleic acid in microorganisms, thereby causing the death of bacteria. The drug does not affect aerobic bacteria.

The antibiotic is in the form of tablets and a solution for infusions.

The medicine is used for the therapy of trichomoniasis, giardiasis, an abscess of amoebic origin in the liver. The drug is prescribed in gynecological practice, with intestinal form of amoebiasis, with surgical interventions on the large intestine and amoebic dysentery.

Antibiotic is prohibited for use in case of individual intolerance to the active component of the drug. It is inadmissible to use the drug during pregnancy (1 trimester), with breastfeeding, with hypersensitivity and with organic diseases of the nervous system.

The list of side effects of the drug "Ornidazole" instructions for use includes dizziness, drowsiness, headaches, nausea, convulsions, dyspeptic disorders. As a result of taking medication, there may be movement coordination disorders, muscle rigidity, increased liver enzymes, tremor of the extremities. The negative consequences also include allergic reactions, a mixed form of neuropathy, a change in taste, a temporary loss of consciousness.

Intravenous administration of the drug is prescribed for severe infectious diseases or in the absence of the possibility of taking the tablets inside.

The standard single dose for children over the age of twelve and adults is half a gram. Introduce "Ornidazole" (antibiotic) at a rate of five milliliters per minute. Between procedures, an 8-hour interval is required. At the same time, the maximum dose should not be higher than 2 grams per day. The duration of treatment is determined by a doctor for each patient individually.

Depending on the indications and the nature of the infection for the continuation of therapy, supportive treatment with oral metronidazole is determined.

For the treatment of trichomoniasis, adults should take a half-gram of the antibiotic 3 times a day for five days or one gram in combination with the introduction of vaginal tablets (0.5 g) overnight. For children, the amount of the drug is calculated based on 25 mg per kilogram of body weight.

Amoebic dysentery is treated for three days, prescribing for a patient weighing more than 35 kg and a half a gram of the drug per day, more than 60 kg take 2 g. Children younger than 35 kg should take 40 mg per kg of body weight.

For elimination of a lambliasis use the scheme, as well as for an amoebic dysentery, only the course of therapy makes 1-2 days.

To prevent infectious complications caused by anaerobic bacteria after surgery, the drug "Ornidazol-Vera" is taken 0.5 grams before the beginning of surgery, and then the same amount of antibiotic is used every 12 hours for five days.

The infusion solution can be combined with oral antibiotics in the treatment of mixed infections. However, with intravenous drip, the drug should not be combined with other pharmaceutical preparations.
