The crane of Mayevsky eliminates the radiators from air plugs

Everyone knows the situation when the heating system in the house is at full capacity, and in the apartment one or more batteries are barely warm to the touch. Having complained to the plumber, you hear from him the enigmatic word "zazvozdushilo" and no less mysterious phrase "crane of Majewski." It turns out that it is this detail that can save the entire heating system from serious problems.

Where does air get into the heating system?

First, through make-up water, replenishing the loss of coolant. In those places of the system where the water velocity is low and the pressure is low, the air dissolved in water is released, the bubble behind the bubble accumulates, and forms an air stopper.

Secondly, the same plug is formed by hydrogen, which is released from water in the presence, for example, of aluminum.

Thirdly, a long, simple heating system in the off-season inevitably leads to its filling with air. When starting the system at the beginning of the heating season, the air must be replaced by water, otherwise the heating will not work.

In all three cases, the Maevsky crane comes to the rescue, the principle of which is very simple. Mounted on the heating radiator, the check valve opens and closes with a special key, releasing the accumulated air inside. However, it was not the water heating system with all its advantages and drawbacks that made up the Majewski crane, but life itself.

The fact is that before the radiators for heating to remove air from them were welded ordinary water taps. These designs can still be found here and there. Folk craftsmen, especially those who live in houses without hot water supply, immediately realized what was happening, and they began to dismantle the gift of boiling water through these cranes for their own needs. At the same time, they did not understand that, in addition to using hot water, for sanitary requirements that could not withstand any criticism, they also, figuratively speaking, saw the branch on which they were sitting. After all, a lack of coolant in the system - a pipe quickly overgrown with scum, and their severe corrosion.

Amateur historians, after a thorough investigation, found that initially, as early as 1931, a special air crane was developed by the Minsk plumber Roev. Two years later, Maevsky developed his own crane, in the same year it was introduced. They acted in a similar way: they let the air out of the heating system, while simultaneously complicating the unauthorized drain of the coolant. By the way, the crane of Mayevsky is truly a national nickname of the unit, in no normative document this phrase is not found.

If in your apartment at least one radiator is installed crane Maevsky, how to use it - is a matter of technology. This can be done independently without causing plumbing. Only in advance, prepare a basin or a pan, substituting it under the tap. Now you need to turn the crane head counter-clockwise by one key for one turn. If this can not be done, lightly moisten the connection point with kerosene and try again. Be careful - excessive force can break the thread. Sizzling eloquently informs you that the air from the radiator has started to go out. Just as eloquently a trickle of water from the tap announces that the radiator is inflated. It remains only to close the Maevsky crane.

Attention! If after this procedure the radiator will remain hardly warm, most likely, it is clogged. And there certainly will have to call a specialist.
