Summary Chekhov "Overpowered". The slavish thinking of the peasants

A.P. Chekhov "Peresolil" wrote in 1876. Like all the stories of the early period, this one stands out with carefree humor and deep hidden meaning. Anton Pavlovich despised all sorts of "shortcuts" and did not understand the adherence of contemporaries to any ideas. Therefore, the writer increasingly in his works appealed to "simple" events, ordinary people, people's lives without jewelry and conjectures. The story "Peresolil" at first glance does not stand out as anything special, but if you look closely, you can see a huge number of problems taken from Russian reality.

Description of the poverty of Russian villages

Gleb Smirnov, the land surveyor, arrives at the station of Gnilushka - this is exactly what the summary tells about. Chekhov "Overdone" wrote with obvious sarcasm, the writer shows the poverty of the peasants, and even the name of the station speaks for itself - everywhere there is rot and decay. The surveyor was summoned to the surveying by General Khokhotov. The man still has to drive about 40 versts, but the station gendarme can not find him postal horses. Smirnov only needs to turn to local peasants who, for a moderate fee, can bring him to their destination.

Gleb Gavrilovich really succeeds in reaching an agreement with one of the peasants. Pockmarked, silent, hefty, dressed in rides - this is how the driver describes the brief content. Chekhov "Peresolil" wrote in order to show not only the poverty of ordinary peasants, but their manner of acting. The horse of the peasant was, although young, but very thin, the cart started only with a fourth whip, which again emphasizes Russian sluggishness and natural laziness.

Excessive cowardice of the surveyor

The cart set off in the evening, when it was already dusk. Smirnov saw on one side some dark haystacks, on the other - a frozen plain, and in front everything was covered by the huge back of Clim. The surveyor became frightened, because he did not know the driver, the night fell on the ground, and they only traveled together in an unknown direction. Gleb Gavrilovich tried to talk the muzhik, began to question him about the bandits, but Clim was taciturn. Smirnov was alarmed by this behavior, and he began to inculcate that he has a revolver, which he will immediately use in the event of an attack - this is exactly what the summary says.

Chekhov "Peresolil" wrote to show the slave mindset of the peasants, because Clim did not doubt for a second that his fellow traveler had weapons. When the cart entered the forest, Smirnov became very frightened, he began to take heart, to say that four more comrades were following him, that he was very much inclined to fight with the bandits. The driver was impressed about the meeting of the surveyor with the three robbers story. Chekhov "Peresolil" wrote to show how long the peasants will depart from serfdom.

Unexpected outcome

The dark forest thickets and the uneasy look of the driver frightened the surveyor and he began to fumble through his pockets, pretending that he was looking for a revolver. Then Clim could not stand it and jumped off the cart right on the run. The fact that the peasant from the bushes asked the master to take both the wagon and the horse, just not to kill him, tells a brief summary. Chekhov "Peresolil" wrote to tell about the blind submission of the villagers. Clim looked like a healthy man, but it never occurred to him to defend himself, he left his last property without hesitation and fled.

Only after two hours the hoarse surveyor shouted to the driver and persuaded him to continue his journey. Clim grumbled that if he knew that this would happen, he would not have gone for any money, because the master frightened him to death.
