Stylistic errors and their types

Language norms are generally accepted rules for the use of various linguistic means, which are regularly repeated in the speech of people and are recognized as correct at this stage of development of the literary form of language. As a rule, norms are fixed in various teaching aids and dictionaries.

Stylistic norms regulate the correct selection of certain words and their forms, as well as suggestions - depending on the specific situation of communication and the attitude of the writer or the speaker of the subject of communication. Stylistic norms concern the selection of linguistic means, the rules for combining these means among themselves and the correlation of style linguistic phenomena.

Stylistic errors are errors that arise as a result of deviation from existing stylistic norms, if such deviations are not intentional and do not pursue any stylistic or aesthetic goals. For example, in the artistic text, you can find a lot of deviations from the norms, but they all pursue a goal and express the idea of the author of the text.

Thus, stylistic errors are speech errors, which consist in the use of words, phrases and sentences that do not fit into the style of the text. Deviation from norms and violation of style unity can weaken the expressiveness of the text and its meaning.

There are several groups of errors. The first is lexical-stylistic errors . They are associated with the unjustified use of jargon, dialectisms, archaisms and other marked words. This also includes errors of anorphemic-stylistic nature, which are associated with the improper use of words with diminutive caressing suffixes; Syntactic-stylistic stylistic errors (incorrect use of participial turns in the sentence); Logical and stylistic errors.

The next group of errors is associated with insufficient knowledge of the resources of the language . Such errors include:

1. An inappropriate repetition of a word or single-root words in a narrow context.

2. The use of pleonasms - word combinations with an excessive semantic component.

3. Tautology is the repetition of one- root words or what is said in other words.

4. Verbosity due to the use of universal words.

5. Verbosity, caused by the replacement of the verb by the combination of a verb with a broad meaning and a verbal noun.

6. The use of speech stamps - hackneyed expressions with a greased lexical meaning and tarnished expressiveness.

7. The use of words-parasites.

8. Inappropriate use of non-literary words.

9. Monotonous construction of sentences.

10. Lack of imagery in the text where they are needed.

There is also a group of errors that are associated with an insufficiently developed stylistic instinct. Such errors include the following drawbacks:

1. Inappropriate use of epithets, metaphors, comparisons and other stylistic devices.

2. Mixing of vocabulary related to different styles.

3. Harshness caused by excessive accumulation of vowels or consonants.

4. Violation of the overall integrity of the text.

5. Wrong order of words.

Observance of stylistic norms is very important, since it is the proper use of words and the construction of sentences that shows the level of human education, as well as the level of his own proficiency in native or foreign language. It is stylistic errors or their absence that indicate whether the person has enough of the resources of the language and whether he has developed a stylistic flair.

Today, such mistakes occur very often: both in the official speech and in the informal discourse. Some mistakes have become so frequent that people almost do not notice them. Nevertheless, it is very important to carefully monitor your speech and do everything possible to ensure that it is literate and motivated.
