Marriage with the director Alexander Itygilov promised to be happy and long. But during the participation in the liquidation of the consequences of the explosion at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, the actress's husband received the strongest irradiation. Long-term struggle with lung sarcoma did not lead to recovery. The director died in 1990 in one of the Moscow clinics.

After that, Mateshko tried to concentrate on the work and education of her son. In 1994, the actress was in the Ukrainian delegation of the United States. After receiving an invitation from American artists, she emigrated. Mateško Olga N. lectured at the Academy of Manhattan and broadcast on television.

However, after a lapse of years, the actress still decided to return to her homeland. On one of the Kiev cemeteries, the husband of Olga Mateshko is buried. More than forty years have passed since the release of the film about Soviet pilots. Mateshko has not played a single major role since - only episodic or secondary. But I never grumbled at fate.
