Steel, copper, brass fittings: classification and application

Fittings are the most important connecting links when it is necessary to connect materials having different diameters, for example, water pipes. The part is required for the operation of any pipelines. Brass fittings are in demand in all industries and utilities for the installation of water, heating or gas piping systems.

There are many varieties of products on the market that are classified according to the material of manufacture, areas of application and purpose. At the place of use, the connecting fittings (brass) are distinguished, which serve for fixing additional pipes and other devices to the basic structure, as well as intermediate elements connecting the pipes together. Depending on the diameter of the fastened products, there are direct fittings used to connect an equal diameter of the pipes, and transitional, which secure the nodes of different sizes.

According to the material of manufacture, brass fittings, steel, cast iron, copper, are distinguished. In addition, the products are manufactured from polypropylene and low-density polyethylene.

In general, all devices are divided into corners and angles, crosses, couplings, plugs, tees and caps. Couplings allow connecting pipes on straight lengths, with the help of angles change the direction of the pipeline. Crosses are designed for branching the common pipeline into several directions. Plugs, plugs, plugs allow you to securely close the ends of the system. Tees are used when it is necessary to create a branch in one direction.

By the method of connection, the fittings are threaded (brass), metal-plastic, compression, glue, self-locking, press devices, for capillary soldering.

Devices have different characteristics, which are due to the design and material of manufacture. Products made of copper are excellent for any soldering, they are highly durable. Brass fittings have high resistance to shock, airtightness and heat resistance. They ensure the reliability of the connection of process pipelines, water supply and heating.

To improve corrosion properties, brass fittings are covered with nickel and chromium. Steel products are also distinguished by their reliability and durability, which they are endowed with the material used for manufacturing. Cast iron and galvanized elements, thanks to their properties, are widely used in all industries.

For the traditional connection of pipes, threaded devices are most commonly used, which have been known for many decades. They are made, as a rule, from metals: brass, steel, cast iron or copper. Highly popular are threaded brass fittings, which are coated with a nickel-plated or chrome-plated shell to enhance corrosion resistance.

For capillary soldering, products intended for connecting metal pipes are used. Such devices have, under the internal thread, a tin or copper wire that melts when heated, covering the space between the pipe and the fitting. This property provides greater reliability of the connection.
