How and when did the reserve appear?

Many are interested in what is Yuntolovsky Park? The reserve was established long ago. Now we should separately talk about the history of the occurrence of this object. Ideas about the creation of a protected natural area began to appear here at the beginning of the 20th century. Then for these purposes it was proposed to use the northern part of the Neva Bay. At the same time, many specialists have developed proposals for the creation of a reserve. They considered the Lakhtinskaya lowland to be one of the most interesting examples of the local landscape and vegetation. However, this is far from all the reasons that caused this decision. In this area, various types of birds often stayed during spring and autumn flights.

Despite all the arguments, the sanctuary was never organized, as the authorities did not support this project. However, a special excursion station, as well as the Nature Museum, began functioning here. The station carried out various studies, the results of which are of great scientific importance. And yet in 1990 it was decided to create in this place the state nature reserve Yuntolovsky. Now it is a very important object both from a scientific and historical point of view.

History of the area

It is also necessary to tell a little about the history of the Lakhtinskaya lowland and the process of its development by man. These places have been used for a long time. First there were agricultural lands, especially a lot of them on the banks of the rivers Yuntolovka and Kamenka.

In the XIX century, these territories underwent significant changes. A new railway was built here. Approximately at the same time active drainage of local marshes began. And already in the XX century, active peat extraction began here. They lasted a rather long period of time. During the war, the peat mined here was used in the city as fuel.

Already in the postwar period for the restoration of the city here also extracted the soil. Due to this, the Lakhtinsky spill became noticeably deeper. Also in these places continued to extract peat. These processes continued until the 90's, when it was decided to create a reserve.

What grows on the territory of the reserve?

Now that we are fully acquainted with the history of this natural zone, we should also talk about the local flora. Reserve Yuntolovsky can boast of a real abundance of representatives of the plant world. Basically on its territory there are wonderful pine and birch forests. Often here you can see the lowlands and swampy areas. Sometimes there is black alder and various shrubby trees. It is not at all difficult to do this, because the reserve is located right in St. Petersburg. You can get to it on your personal car or by road transport through the streets of Planernaya and Glukharska, and also along Shuvalovsky Avenue. The nearest metro station is Novaya Derevnya.

Modern problems of the reserve

In our time, environmental problems are almost every natural object. An exception was not the Yuntolovsky Reserve. Here, for many years, the struggle for the ecology of the natural zone has been fought. The first factor that greatly influenced the situation was the construction of a nearby road called the Western High Speed Diameter (WHSD) nearby . After its construction, the forest adjacent to it was severely damaged, it was cut down, and the water supply of objects inside the reserve was also violated. Recently, next to the boundaries of the reserve, another large-scale construction began. Here erected a multi-storey building - "Lakhta Center". Experts predict that it can significantly affect the nature. Every year a huge number of birds fly through these places. Since migration occurs mainly at night, most birds can die, breaking down on a structure that is not visible in the dark. In this regard, it was decided to equip the building with special lighting and other elements.
