Spaniel, whose species are the most popular breeds of dogs in the world, has established himself not only as a hunter, but also as a faithful home friend and a pleasant companion. They were common in medieval Europe, and in the 19th century were one of the most valuable hunting breeds. Until the end of this century, all these dogs were considered a single breed. Today there are different kinds of spaniels.

English Cocker - small dog, up to 40 centimeters high at the withers. The constitution of the animal is strong, the neck is long muscular, the thorax is not wide, well developed. The head is narrow, the skull is convex and rather wide, the transition from the forehead to the muzzle is not very pronounced, the eyes are not large. Hanging long ears with wavy hair are set low. The tail is located low, half-length docked. Pretty soft hair is straight or slightly wavy.

A dog of this breed has an affectionate and cheerful disposition. She is mobile, balanced, sociable. He is an excellent companion and tireless hunter.

Ancestors of the breed of dogs are American cocker spaniels - the kinds of English spaniels brought to America in the 19th century. This small animal grows up to 38 cm and weighs up to 13 kg. The head of the dog is round, the muzzle is wide, the transition to the muzzle from the forehead with a strongly pronounced transition, the nose is distinguished by well developed nostrils. The color of the eyes is combined with the color of the coat. Ears hanging, long. The neck is muscular, the coat is silky, medium in length. Color black, black spotted, cream, brown-yellow. The dog is very devoted to the owner, cheerful, affectionate, mobile, loves children. Plant such a pet, mostly as a decorative one. Well suited for living in a city apartment. The coat needs a lot of care: daily combing, cutting, trimming.

Ancestors of a variety such as the hunting Russian spaniel are the types of English spaniels: a cocker and a springer. It all began with the fact that the first cocker spaniel was brought to Russia in the late 19th century. Later they began to import animals and other breeds, but these dogs were not suitable for Russian hunting conditions. At the beginning of the 20th century, the work of breeders on a new species began, for which temperamental and long-legged springs were taken. The new breed was called the Russian hunting spaniel. This dog is distinguished by its endurance and ability to work in harsh conditions. Russian spaniel is well suited for hunting in the field, marsh, waterfowl, steppe poultry. He is distinguished by innate qualities of a hunting dog: an excellent instinct, perseverance, energy, diligence. To train an animal does not require much work and time.

Russian spaniel is of medium size. The head is elongated, dry, with a rather convex forehead and skull of medium width. The muzzle is long, with a pronounced transition from the forehead to the muzzle. Wool tight, soft, shiny, slightly wavy or straight. Ears hanging and long, adjacent to cheekbones. The tail is cut to half the length. The color of the Russian spaniel is diverse: black, red, brown, red, black, brown-piebald, white, spotted, black with tan. The color of the eyes can be of different shades, depending on the color of the coat.

All of the above spaniels are species that are very popular in Russia. But apart from them, several other types of this breed have been inferred, which are less well known. They are English Springer, Clumber Spaniel, Fieldspaniel, Welsh Springer, Irish Waterman, Sussex Spaniel, Swamp American Spaniel.

A very beautiful and intelligent dog designed for hunting birds, squirrels, rabbits is a popular and loved by many spaniels. The species of this breed are well suited for keeping in urban apartments. They can be for the person not only assistants on hunting, but also disinterested, devoted friends.
