Single beds: sizes and advice on choice

As you know, a person in a dream spends one third of the daily time, and the body not only rest and gain strength, but also purifies and heals. This process should take place in a comfortable environment. It is believed that for an adult for a full sleep is sufficient single bed. Typically, the width of such a bed is not more than 1 m. However, if there is enough space in the bedroom, you can not embarrass yourself and get a more comfortable option - one and a half beds. The sizes of such boxes will perfectly suit the most demanding buyers.

A bit of history

It is believed that the bed appeared in Ancient Greece, the facts about it can be found in the Homeric poem "Odyssey", where it is mentioned about a similar modern bed made of twigs. It is interesting that water mattresses made of goat skin were invented in Persia more than 3 millennia ago. Also in the Scottish villages in the period around the 3rd century BC, stone beds with a fill were used, which rose slightly above the floor level.

High beds were popular with pharaohs and queens, and the rule to decorate with various decorations a place for sleep was spread among Persians and Greeks. Already in the days of Ancient Rome, wooden beds were made (half-swayed and other sizes). They were packed high mattresses, stuffed with hay, reeds, down and other materials.

In the later centuries, beds appeared, made of iron and its alloys. They were valuable, due to the fact that their service life was long-lived, and they did not inhabit insect-woodworms.

Single beds: sizes

For today, the choice of furniture is so diverse that it is sometimes difficult to find the right option. Therefore, it is worthwhile to specify which dimensions the desired object should have. It should also be borne in mind that the beds are made, as a rule, according to standard values and according to individual orders.

Semi-double beds (the dimensions are indicated only taking into account the berth, the design itself takes up more space) are mainly available in widths from 120 to 140 cm. The height is from 60 cm to 85 cm, the length (or depth) is usually about 2, 2 m.

How to make a choice?

To find a suitable bed for yourself, you can follow such moments:

  • The design and materials from which the sleeping construction is made must be combined with the interior of the room. So, bamboo and other woven products will not look good with other details made in the Renaissance style. A bed-platform is better "fit" in the interior of the bedrooms, decorated in Japanese style, where minimalism is accepted in things.
  • The bed for sleeping is better to pick up large dimensions, provided that the bedroom area allows. So, for complete people, the optimal option will be a one-and-a-half bed. Dimensions of them will allow you to accommodate two small in size Homo sapiens.
  • There are special beds with a lifting base, under which are niches for bedding and other things. If there is not enough space in the house, such an acquisition will be very useful.
  • As stated above, the width of the half-spaced bed is 1.2-1.4 m, and the length is within 2.2 m. The last value is taken from the calculation: a person's height + 15-20 cm. And the width of the bed should contain the body with the bent in Elbows hands. The distance from the hand to the edge of the bed must be at least 10 cm on each side. If these conditions are met, the bed will be comfortable and meet all the requirements of ergonomics.

The choice of a bed is an individual matter, and this must be approached with responsibility. As you know, properly selected design can provide a comfortable and healthy sleep.
