Science Fiction: The Best Movies (List)

Lovers know, and the rest is for sure not, that in October of this year there will be a significant date. Emmett Brown and Marty McFly went to the future and arrived there on October 21, 2015. In honor of this event, the article is devoted to films in which one way or another considers the relationship of an individual and time.

But here you need to make a reservation not to waste time those who are waiting for coverage in this article documentary sci-fi movies. The theme "Science Fiction: Documentary Films" will not be disclosed here. And what can you find here? Review and partial analysis of films on the topic of human relations and time. Of course, there are a lot of them, so only three storylines were chosen, although one of them includes as many as three parts. So, the list of "science fiction: the best films" included motion pictures:

  • "Back to the Future" (trilogy);
  • "Ivan Vasilievich is changing his profession";
  • "Remember all".

Back to the Future (1985-1990)

The trilogy was filmed in the period from 1985 (the date of the release of the first film) to 1990 (the date of the last film).

The plot of the first part

Very briefly, because, probably, everyone knows him. This wonderful movie is based on the duo of actors Christopher Lloyd and Michael J. Fox. They play, respectively, the doctor ("Doc") Emmett Brown and Marty McFly. The doctor is a mad scientist, obsessed with science, inventing something all the time, but, as a rule, this does not work. But in 1985, Doc still creates something working - a time machine. He invites his friend, Marty McFly, - an ordinary schoolboy, to witness a historical moment: the first experiment with time. And the first time traveler in this non-laboratory experiment is a dog named Einstein. This is how the creators of the film thank the greatest physicist of the 20th century for the idea.

The experiment is going well, but the doctor does not have time to use his brainchild to wave for 30 years, that is, in 2015. He is killed by terrorists, from whom he fraudulently borrowed plutonium. The time machine works, unfortunately, only on "nuclear traction" to pierce time and space, it takes a lot of energy. Murder happens right before Marty's eyes. He, frightened, climbs into the "DaLorian" (time machine) and, escaping all the wheels from the terrorists, accidentally falls in 1955.

At this time, Marty is going through a lot of things, but most importantly, he helps his father to believe in himself and turn from a loser into a successful writer, which, of course, affects the fate of all family members. Marty meets Doc alive and healthy. He helps him to return home. Happy end.

The plot of the second part

The second part starts where the first one ends. For Marty, reality is plush: parents are rich, he has a car, a girl loves him. Ahead of them only the best is waiting. But then Doc appears and says that they need to fly urgently to the future to help them out with Jennifer's children. The time machine is now able to fly, and the heroes are sent to the future, but this is only the beginning of adventure.

The plot of the third part

As a result of an accident that occurred at the end of the second part, Emmett Brown falls into the Wild West. Marty can not leave a friend in trouble and follows him, taking advantage of Doc's help from 1955 (this is a long story, it's better to watch the film). There, too, the two main characters fall into different event bindings, but again come out of them with honor. True, unfortunately, the time machine at the end is destroyed by the train.

Back to the Future and Time

Probably, many who have looked this film, have reflected, and whether such trips in time are possible? Answer: unfortunately, not yet. From the physical point of view, neither the past nor the future exists. The past is our memories, and the future is our forecasts, expectations, abilities and will. In other words, the past and the future are the constructs of consciousness.

In addition, from the scientific point of view it seems impossible to recreate an exact copy of past events.

You can not also change the history of one family, without changing the whole history of mankind. We must not forget about the "butterfly effect", the essence of which is precisely that minor influences or events can disrupt the balance of the entire system and lead to catastrophic consequences. In this sense, much closer to the truth, the film "And Thunder Rumbled" according to the story of Ray Bradbury. He is just about the "butterfly effect" in the literal and figurative sense.

Nevertheless, despite scientific criticism, this film is certainly rightfully included in the category "Best science fiction: movies", whose lists are invariably topped.

"Ivan Vasilievich changes his profession" (1973)

Strange, but the Soviet and Russian viewers, most likely, do not perceive the illustrious comedy as science fiction. And completely in vain. It can, like "Back to the Future", be considered one of the best in its genre. In other words, the category "Best science fiction: movies" (lists of this genre) should be decorated with our famous comedy. It is noteworthy that in one of the English translations the film sounds like: Ivan Vasilievich: Back to the Future. Thus, two sci-fi tapes enter into bizarre linguistic and temporal relationships.

Plot

Although he is known to every Soviet and, hopefully, Russian man, duty calls to remind.

The "mad" Soviet scientist A. S. Timofeev is in search of a mechanism that can manage time and send a person to the past or the future. As a result of his quest, he invents the time machine. Because of his experiments, congestion in the house is constantly flying out, which is very displeased with the terribly conscious manager of IV Bunsh. In the neighborhood with A. S. Timofeev, A.S. Shpak. Seeking to explain to the manager the essence of the time machine's actions, the inventor launches it, and the wall separating the apartments of Timofeev and Shpak disappears. In the proscenium appears Georges Miloslavsky (mother thief-flatman). Everyone is at a loss: "Where did the wall go?" The scientist, on the contrary, is inspired: once it disappeared, then the machine is working! So you can go to the past or the future. A. S. Timofeev says that now they will see Rus of the times of Ivan the Terrible. And really saw. True, the spontaneous experiment went a little differently: the inhabitants of Soviet Moscow and the inhabitants of its older version were confused in the confusion - IV Bunsha and Georges Miloslavsky were in the times of Ivan the Terrible, and one of the most cruel tsars in the history of Russia saw the beauty of industrial Moscow . This is the outset of the film, which belongs to the category "Science Fiction: The Best Films."

Mikhail Bulgakov and Leonid Gaydai

The plot of the famous play almost completely formed the basis of the Soviet masterpiece. It is also remarkable that both in the play and in the film the whole action unfolds in the dream of the engineer Timofeev. And in the times of Mikhail Bulgakov, and in the times of Gaidai, only the dream reality was beyond the control of the authorities, that's why the events of the play and the film were placed in it. The creative timeless alliance of Mikhail Bulgakov and LI Gaidai created a work of art that is part of the group "Science Fiction: The Best Films."

"Remember All" (1990)

Another film, which certainly deserves attention, is "Remember All" with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the title role. The film itself is shot in the genre of the action movie, but it deserves attention, because it considers and unfolds the idea of false memories.

Plot

In the courtyard of almost the 21st century - 2084 year. The ordinary worker has strange dreams. From night to night he presents himself as a secret agent on Mars. Then, in the light of the day, he sees the company "Recollection" offering "false travel" services: memories are implanted in the memory of a person, any that he wishes, of course, within the range of the assortment available at the office. Douglas Quaid decides to go there. He explains the conditions, talking about the dangers, for example, that there is a possibility of losing his memory, he still wants to be at least in memories as an agent with a secret mission on Mars. During the memory implantation procedure, Douglas becomes aggressive and screams something unclear, beats the company's employees, but they, after injecting a huge dose of a tranquilizer, cope with the situation.

Doug is in a taxi. Then something strange happens to the reality: for the hero runs a lot of people in the hope of killing him. And what is most interesting: among them is the wife of Douglas Quaid.

Remake of 2012 and the place "Remember All" in the Hall of Fame

If someone does not like Arnie's taste, then they can watch another movie with the same name and storyline. Starring Colin Farrell. A newer film differs little from its predecessor, except that it is more technological and has more special effects.

A place in the film hall of fame, of course, this film is unlikely to take, but it deserves a place in the group "Science Fiction: The Best Movies" for the idea. In general, if the cinematography is engaged in the systematic development of the almost boundless literary heritage of Philip Dick, the Hollywood industry will earn more than one million dollars. One misfortune with the novels of F. Dick: they are beautiful in their ideas, but they lack filigree performance, and all because their author almost never had enough time for the exact implementation of the idea.

These are the best films of the science fiction genre.

Why did not the films that came out after the 2000s appear on the list of the best?

This is a reasonable question. It can arise in the majority of readers of this article. Indeed, in 2000 there were as many good science fiction films, but in the twentieth century, the fantasy itself has changed, now it seems to people that the future will be completely different, that is, the views of 20 years ago have become obsolete and have become our modern reality (Of course, not all). Therefore, it is more interesting, in our opinion, to see how the fantastic ideas of the 80's and 90's were embodied. The generation of the then children was already grown up. They were witnesses to the appearance of these films, which means they were hoping, empathizing and dreaming in one key with their creators. In other words, our triple of films in the category "Science Fiction: Art Films" is such, and for the younger generation it can be quite different.

Final list

It remains to make a brief summary. Not only directly described films came here, but also those that would be good to see in context. And here already the time limiter, put by the author of the article, is not observed. So, "Science Fiction: the best films", a list of masterpieces about personal relationships of man and time:

  • "Back to the Future" (trilogy);
  • "Ivan Vasilievich is changing his profession";
  • "Remember All" (2 versions);
  • "A Sound of Thunder";
  • "Quantum Leap" (TV series);
  • "Groundhog Day";
  • "Butterfly effect" (only the first part, the first film).

The last three films come out of the series ("Quantum Leap" is a science fiction series, and "Butterfly Effect" and "Groundhog Day", rather, philosophical parables). But still they need to be looked at by all those who are interested in metaphysical, philosophical, one word, world-defining issues of human existence in the context of the space-time continuum.
