Sambek Heights - Memorial of Glory

The Great Patriotic War did not pass by any city, not a single village. Somewhere residents (including old people and children) stood around the clock on the machines, worked in the field, and somewhere there were bloody battles. So, the place where the direct military operations proceeded are the Sambek heights.

History of the memorial of glory

During the Great Patriotic War, this land was the place of passage of the defensive line of the enemy called Mius-Front. It was difficult for our fighters to break this state of affairs and go for a breakthrough. The situation invariably evolved in favor of the fascists. The radical change that was expected for so long was in August 1943.

Then the troops of the Southern Front managed to attack the German troops. The battles were fought at once by several troops: rifle, cavalry, tank and aviation. This allowed to breach the enemy defensive line. Then in a few days our soldiers liberated the Rostov region and nearby territories. The breakthrough of the Mius Front was destined to become not only the most significant stage of the Great Patriotic War, but also the most tragic. Those events claimed the lives of over eight hundred thousand Soviet soldiers.

Sambeck heights - This is a kind of nominal boundary. This place turned out to be a home not only for the residents born in it, but for thousands of soldiers who died heroically here.

In memory of the past heroic battles and it was decided to erect the memorial "Sambek heights." It was established in 1980 in the central part of the field. The opening of the memorial took place on May 7 of the same year. It was attended by a delegation from Azerbaijan, headed by the first secretary of the Communist Party Heydar Aliyev.

By the way, the village resurrected from the ruins of the few soldiers who came from the front. They simply refused to build houses in other places.

Description of the structure

The point itself is not so high - 227.9 meters. Along two stone walls (they are torn in the center), built on a low hill, an endless stream of soldiers pass. They are also carved out of stone. They are fighters of two rifle divisions (130th and 416th Azerbaijan), who broke through the German defense. At the entrance to the complex is a large stone with an inscription inscribed on it.

Between the constructed walls, regardless of the weather conditions, there is always the hum of a powerful wind. There is a feeling that you fall into a special space, like falling out of the real world, but military events are closer and more real.

The sculptor E. Shamilov (Baku) worked on the creation of the memorial of fame on Sambek Heights, the architects V.I. And I.V. Grigor (Rostov). It was erected not just on the field, but precisely in the very place where the fire points were, where the soldiers were dying in the trenches, and the earth was painted red from the spilled blood.

For some time, the Eternal Flame burned on the Sambek Heights, then they refused this idea.

Location of the memorial

This is the largest monument on the Rostov land. From Taganrog Sambek heights are not far: at a distance of about 4.5 kilometers. You need to go on the highway M-23. On your car, of course, to get easier and more convenient. But the drivers of interurban fixed-route taxis also stop here at the request of passengers.

Restoration of the memorial

In 2012, the memorial was opened after a large-scale restoration work. The need for them arose because of the destruction of the memorial objects, the dilapidation of the monument. Financing of the works was carried out by the Azerbaijani government, financing of design and estimate works was carried out from the budget funds of the Rostov Region.

Whether to be a museum?

For several years there have been talks about the creation of a museum. The initiative of its opening was made by the veterans of the Great Patriotic War, it was supported by the participants of search associations. In 2014, a preliminary sketch of the structure was prepared, a year later, on May 6, it was planned to hold a solemn ceremony to lay the foundation stone. All plans were broken by chance. A month before this event, the search team (leader Igor Tretyakov) found German war shells at the site of the future construction site, as well as the remains of two dead fighters. The event had to be rescheduled. A few months later, on August 30 of the same year, a memorial stone, still laid. The opening of the memorial stone on the Sambek heights was conducted by the acting governor Vasily Golubev and the war veteran Mikhail Petrovich Shatov. Thus, the place on which the museum will be built is designated.

The future complex should consist of an exposition-memorial zone, represented by the building of the museum itself, a demonstration site of combat military equipment, a memorial to the memory of dead soldiers, an interactive platform that reproduces fragments of combat battles; Zone of reception and service of visitors, consisting of parking lots, cash desks, places where food will be organized; Administrative and economic part and transition gallery.
