Rigid contact lenses - advantages and recommendations

Few people are familiar with such an invention as hard contact lenses. It sounds a bit scarier than, for example, soft lenses. Although it does not seem at first glance, hard lenses miss oxygen better than the most famous soft analogs. Many prefer to use silicone-hydrogelic specimens, which are known for their safety, but they also pass less oxygen through themselves than hard lenses. Although most people are forced to use just such lenses for health reasons.

Another advantage that hard contact lenses have is providing a clear vision. They are also more wear-resistant, which means that they will last longer. At cost, they are cheaper than their counterparts.

Indications for use

It is recommended to use rigid contact lenses if the use of soft lenses does not bring any effect. And it happens in the following cases:

  1. A person has increased demands on quality and visual acuity. As a rule, people who work with operating surgeons, drivers, jewelers, etc. make high demands on vision.
  2. With the detection of astigmatism. With such a disease, soft lenses are unable to give 100% vision, since the very shape of the cornea changes.
  3. If the form of keratoconus is changed.
  4. In the period after the correction of vision through surgical intervention (such operations as laser correction of myopia). It happens that patients are not even able to wear lenses after the operation, and they are prescribed glasses.

Rigid contact lenses. Rules of operation

If the doctor prescribed a correction of vision with hard lenses, then after using this technique you will need some time to get used to them. The adaptation period varies from 5 to 7 days, for each individual individually. In some cases, it may take longer. Do not worry about wearing these lenses, because they do not cause any pain. To quickly overcome the feeling of discomfort after using hard lenses, you need to put them on as often as possible. And do it even when there is no such need. The more often you put them on, the faster your eyes will get used to. If you take a break, then again take time to adapt the eyes. Therefore, lenses for vision correction should be worn every day and do not change them to others.

How to store hard lenses for the eyes and take care of them

Like soft lenses, rigid ones are worn directly on the cornea, so they require thorough cleaning and care, as well as compliance with all operating rules. However, caring for hard lenses is less difficult than for soft ones, as they do not get infected with fungi and other microorganisms.

Store them in a specially equipped container filled with disinfectant solution. Compliance with this rule is very important, since the solution disinfects the lenses, and the container reduces the risk of deformation.

The most difficult thing in applying an LCD is their initial selection. After all, each lens should ideally match the surface of the eye cornea. Special equipment is used, so the selection is only possible with a qualified specialist, even if it is a decorative lens for the eyes.
