Angiopathy of the retina of the eye: causes, symptoms and methods of treatment

Angiopathy of the retina is a common problem, which is accompanied by a change in blood vessels and a violation of normal circulation. A similar pathology occurs for various reasons, for example, as a result of trauma, certain diseases. But it is worthwhile to understand that prolonged disturbance of blood circulation leads to trophic changes in tissues, which is fraught with reduced vision and other complications.

What is dangerous angiopathy of the retina ?

In fact, this condition is extremely dangerous. After all, as already mentioned, prolonged disruption of blood circulation leads to inadequate nutrition of retinal tissues. In turn, the result in this case are slow, but progressive degenerative processes.

As a rule, angiopathy of the vessels of the retina is accompanied by not too noticeable symptoms. Some patients do not even suspect a problem, while others complain of a decreased vision. Degeneration can be manifested by spots or "flies" before the eyes, as well as discomfort, and sometimes pain in the eyeball. If the vascular lesions occur in the area of the yellow spot, then the central vision first of all suffers. In the absence of treatment, gradual rejection and necrosis of retinal tissues is possible, which is accompanied by a complete loss of vision.

Angiopathy of the retina of the eye and its variants

In fact, the causes of the development of such a disorder, as a rule, lie in the progression of a disease. Depending on this, the disease can have several basic forms:

  • Angiopathy often occurs with injuries, injuries of the abdominal cavity, chest and skull, which are accompanied by a hemorrhage into the retina.
  • The main causes include diabetes. After all, this endocrine disease leads to a disruption of metabolism and the destruction of virtually all the vessels of the body. With such a disease, a change in the vascular wall is observed, as well as a narrowing of its lumen and a violation of the permeability of capillaries. And damage to small vessels of the retina is considered one of the most common complications of diabetes.
  • Quite often there is a so-called hypertonic angiopathy of the retina. After all, hypertension is accompanied by an increase in blood pressure, as a result of which the wall of the vessel changes - it becomes denser and less permeable. Often, high blood pressure leads to fibrosis of the arterioles and eye capillaries.

In fact, the reasons for the development of this pathology are much greater. Degenerative processes can be the result of hypotension, atherosclerosis and other disorders. Nevertheless, the treatment and assistance of a specialist doctor is simply necessary.

Angiopathy of the retina of the eye and methods of treatment

First of all, the doctor needs to determine the cause of vascular damage - this is precisely what determines the choice of effective therapy. It is proved that the elimination of the primary disease stops the processes of further changes in the tissues of the retina. For example, in diabetes mellitus, the right diet and adherence to the rules of treatment prescribed by a doctor-endocrinologist is extremely important.

In addition, patients are prescribed drugs that stimulate blood circulation, strengthen the walls of blood vessels and normalize their permeability. It will be useful to take certain vitamins, in particular ascorbic acid.
