History

It was within the walls of the Educational House that the foundation of women's pedagogical education in Russia was laid. Already by 1903, the Higher Pedagogical Pedagogical Institute was established, which produced teachers for gymnasiums. He became the first state university in Russia for women.

Biology

The Faculty of Biology is rightfully considered one of the oldest in the university. It was organized as a separate structural unit in 1920. Until 1944 it was called the Faculty of Natural Sciences. At its source stood the famous scientists of the country: A. Maksimov, K. Bykov, F. Skazkin, Yu. Polyansky, S. Gred, F. Tur, P. Borovitsky, etc. Behind each of these names is a lot of work. These people wrote monographs, conducted research, published textbooks. The more this faculty is best known, so these are generations of biology teachers. In recent times, the Faculty of Biology has moved to a two-tier education system. The direction of master's education in the specialties "Environmental education", "Biological education" and "General ecology" is actively developing.

There are 4 departments at the faculty: anatomy and physiology of man and animals, zoology, botany and methods of teaching biology and ecology. The material and technical base of the faculty is impressive. It includes a zoological museum, a laboratory of experimental zoology, an agrobiostation in the village of Vyritsa, and a study room for teaching biology and ecology.
