Resection of the ovary: how safe is it?

In the female ovaries, a definite stock of follicles has been laid down since birth, which is consumed with the course of life. This can be caused by resection of the ovaries, which consists in the removal of some part of these organs or one of them. The fact is that with this operation, a part of the tissue is eliminated, therefore the number of follicles decreases.

There are a number of indications for this operation. The most common cause is a benign tumor. It can be follicular ovarian cyst , fibroma, cystoma (if it occurs in women of childbearing age). Polycystic and ovarian cancer may also be an indication.

Resection of the ovary is considered one of the most common surgical interventions that are carried out along with other others having a gynecological orientation.

Experts previously claimed that even with the removal of one ovary completely, and the second - in part, the menstrual cycle will not be disturbed, and the woman will be able to conceive in the same way as she could before the operation. However, recent studies have shown that the possibility of conception decreases directly in proportion to the amount of tissue removed. In this regard, this operation is rare, doctors are trying to use more gentle methods of treatment.

At this stage, widespread laparoscopic resection of the ovary. In this case, the patient does not get a serious injury of the abdominal cavity. Very often situations arise when a postoperative examination shows that there was no need for surgery.

Therefore, before it is carried out a thorough examination, which can last several months. It consists of ultrasound examination, monitoring the patient's blood and puncture cysts. Very often deep examination helps to avoid surgical intervention, which is replaced by effective conservative treatment.

There are also some complications that can cause ovarian resection. The consequences can be as follows:

  1. Complications against anesthesia.
  2. The occurrence of trauma to internal organs, which occurred due to the introduction of trocars.
  3. Violations of the integrity of blood vessels.
  4. Negative effect of injected gas on the body.
  5. Infections.
  6. Hematoma or seroma.
  7. Adhesive processes in the pelvic area.
  8. Formation of a postoperative hernia.

Resection of the ovary can be carried out using sparing techniques. So, very often to eliminate a cyst it is possible by means of a puncture. Its holding helps to suck the necessary element, while losing the minimum amount of tissue of the ovary.

Even with laparoscopy, some amount of tissue is lost, which leads to loss of follicles. The safest way for the reproductive system of treatment is the use of hormonal medications. It is used constantly, when there is a possibility to avoid surgical intervention.

Of course, resection of the ovary reduces the possibility of becoming pregnant. If this is supplemented by some other pathology that causes problems with conception, the situation becomes even more complicated.

Immediately after the operation, a woman can try to get pregnant on her own or with the use of hormonal drugs for a year. If during this period all attempts are unsuccessful, you can resort to the use of IVF - in vitro fertilization.

Remember that when a woman grows older, her chances of getting pregnant with IVF are reduced. Therefore, the decision should be taken as soon as possible, without forgetting to consult with the attending physician.
