Remedy for the cold "Ximelin": instructions for use

Today, pharmacies sell a lot of funds that help to facilitate breathing during the common cold. One of the most effective in this respect is the nasal drop "Ximelin". The instruction indicates that the vasoconstrictive action of the drug is provided by the main active substance - xylometazoline. Due to this action, the degree of hyperemia (overflow with blood of blood vessels) and swelling of the nose are significantly reduced. The therapeutic effect during the reception of the drug "Ximelin" is observed in the first two or three minutes. The duration of exposure to the drug is at least ten hours.

There are several varieties of this remedy - actually the drug "Ximelin" and the medicines "Ximelin Eco" and "Ximelin Extra". The composition of the latter, in addition to the main active ingredient, includes ipratropium bromide, which reduces the secretion of the glands of the nasal mucosa.

In the preparation "Ximelin Eco", the therapeutic properties of xylometazoline are enhanced by the content of levomenthol in it.

Regarding the field of application of the drug Xymelin, the instruction indicates that this type of nasal drops should be prescribed for such diseases as acute allergic rhinitis, otitis media (to reduce nasopharyngeal edema), acute respiratory disease, hay fever, eustachiitis, and also in preparation for nasal cavity diagnostics .

In addition to the drop form, this product is also available in the form of a spray "Ximelin" for both adults and children, as well as in the form of an intranasal gel.

The duration of self-administration of the drug without prior consultation of a specialist in total should not be more than a week. After this period, you should take a break. During the day the medication should be applied no more than three times. But it is better to contact a doctor for an individual treatment and dosage schedule.

Before using Ximelin, the instructions for use recommend clearing the nasal cavity.

Side effects of this drug may not manifest itself with respect to the dosage and timing of treatment, however, prolonged use of the drug may irritate the nasal mucosa, dryness, burning, tingling, increased secretion and swelling.

Systemic adverse reactions of the body to the "Ximelin" remedy are defined as follows:

  • From the side of the nervous system - headaches and dizziness, sleep disorders, emotional lability (that is, a sharp change in mood), depression, impaired vision;

  • From the cardiovascular system - tachycardia, arterial hypertension, arrhythmia;

  • Among other things, vomiting, rhinorrhea (continuous watery discharge from the nose), nosebleeds, and Quincke's edema may occur.

However, listed systemic side effects are extremely rare.

With a significant overdose of Ximelin, the following symptoms may occur:

- increase in body temperature;

- a sharp decrease in blood pressure (or circulatory collapse);

- depression of the central nervous system;

- a coma;

- convulsions.

Among the contra-indications to the use of Ximelin, the instruction distinguishes the following:

- arterial hypertension ;

- glaucoma;

- tachycardia;

- severe atherosclerosis;

Atrophic rhinitis;

- hyperthyroidism;

Hypersensitivity.

The drug "Ximelin" (0.01%) should not be given to children under six years of age, and children's drug should be younger than two years. Concerning the drug interaction, it is known that it should not be used simultaneously with antidepressants and MAO inhibitors (i.e., monoamine oxidases). This, in other words, those medicines that slow down the acceleration of enzymatic reactions and are used in the treatment of depression and mental disorders.

Patients with diabetes mellitus, as well as those who are more sensitive to individual components of the drug, use for the treatment of the common cold a described pharmaceutical agent is undesirable.

During pregnancy and lactation, the use of this medication must always be agreed with the attending physician.
