Reason is what? Qualities of a reasonable person

Reason is a very useful and important quality. People who are different from him, in our time is not so much. The mind expresses the highest type of mental activity. Or, in other words, thanks to him, the individual is able to think, generalize, analyze, abstract and so on. But this is only a brief description of the properties of the mind. In general, this topic should be considered in more detail.

About the concept

Reason is the quality of a person, which allows him to apply correctly the knowledge received in the course of his life. In philosophy, there is an excellent synonym for this concept - expediency. This term determines how much a particular process / phenomenon corresponds to a state whose ideal model is represented as a goal. A person who is characterized by both qualities, is guided in his actions only by reason. He is not used to obeying desires and emotions or acting spontaneously.

Reasonable thinking is expressed through speech and through the performance of certain actions. Both one and the other are accompanied by analysis. This is a concept that is familiar to everyone. Analysis, in simple terms, involves a method of investigating something, by dividing an object into several parts. That is, its decomposition "on the shelves." Having considered separately each component, it turns out to make the most correct conclusion. This is the mind of man.

A good example

Our life is full of different situations. And intelligence is a quality that, fortunately, is manifested by many on a daily basis. But as an example, it is worthwhile to cite an exaggerated situation. As already mentioned above, the main property of the mind is its resistance to feelings and emotions. For example, there are two people. Two adult brothers who are for each other the closest and most loved people in the whole world.

At some point, one of them begins to suffer from a mental illness, because of which it poses a danger to society. The consequences do not take long to wait. He in a spontaneous attack of anger kills several people, then in a panic he tells about what happened to his brother, begging him not to report to the relevant authorities. And he, regretting his relative, covers him in every possible way.

It is reasonable to proceed, of course, differently. It will be correct to report this to the police and psychiatric clinic so that the offender is isolated from the community in order to avoid other victims. But in situations so complex from the point of view of morality, emotions usually win, not rationality. It is a fact.

About the power of quality

All that we possess is developed in one way or another. Reason is a quality whose strength depends on self-control. If a person is not inherent in it, then it is difficult to name it. After all, what is the mind? It is a person's ability to properly perform his duties and duty. And the feelings for this are turned inside, but not outward. The human mind has its own characteristics. And the fact that this or that personality has it, does not exclude the presence of her desires. A reasonable person is not cold and unfeeling, who are alien to joy. He just knows how to keep everything under control.

For example, a person came up with a seductive offer from a tour operator about a burning ticket, which can be bought at a discount of 90%. And he lights up this idea! A person is ready to immediately throw everything and go to rest. But is it expedient? After all, in the office - a traditional "blockage". Going on a trip, there is a risk of losing your job. And it is possible that even a voucher with such an impressive discount then for a long time will seem like an unattainable purchase. Therefore, it is better to analyze everything, to pull yourself together and wait.

Awareness

This quality should also be noted with attention, talking about what the mind is. It is very important. Because it is a fundamental feature of reasonableness. A reasonable person can know a lot. Everything that surrounds him, he understands perfectly. But the main thing is not this. And the fact that he realizes and applies in practice everything that he understands and knows. This is not common for every person.

The oncologist can paint the consequences of smoking in people's paints, show horrifying presentations, show photos and even real easy people who used tobacco. But can it be called reasonable if, after completing the lecture, he goes out and is dragged out with a cigarette? Knowledge and awareness are two different things. And certainly they are not synonymous.

Absence of bias

This is another quality that an advisable person has. A creature is reasonable only if it is unbiased. With this it is difficult to argue. What is bias? In simple terms, this is the lack of impartiality, accompanied by obvious prejudice and an initial inclination towards one or another position. In general, this is a quality that prevents you from being adequate and reasonable.

In life there are many examples. Suppose a person does not like people of one or another nationality. Once he is offered to take a walk in the company, he agrees. There he meets new good acquaintances, and with one he begins to actively develop, growing into friendship. And then he becomes aware that this person is the representative of precisely that nationality to which he feels a fierce dislike. The adequate attitude to him disappears and all good is crossed out only because of his ethnic peculiarity. Is this person reasonable? No. Are they being preconceived? Definitely.

Stereotypes

This is the last thing I would like to say a few words. A reasonable person never follows stereotypes and clichés. The only thing he believes is to his eyes and ears. Its difference from ordinary people is the lack of framework. He is free in his opinion and outlook. It may seem that this is somewhat remote from reasonableness. But this is not so. After all, we are talking about philosophical concepts, and all of them, one way or another, are interrelated with each other.
