Pros and cons of drives such as MicroSD / TransFlash

MicroSD / TransFlash is the main kind of drives for mobile devices. This unification is very convenient. There is no need to move information from the phone to the smartphone, but a microSD / TransFlash memory card is enough to get from the old device and install it in a new one.

How it was?

Initially, this standard was developed by SanDisk. For the first time such a device was introduced back in 2004 - just under 10 years ago. Due to certain agreements, T-Mobile was forced to rename its obligations to the German mobile operator and telecommunications services to TransFlash. A year later, it returned to its proper place - such memory cards got their present name.

Specifications

Initially , the MicroSD / TransFlash memory cards could have a size of 32 MB. The standard speed of data transmission / reception was 5.3 Mbit / s. A little later, there was a faster modification with an indicator of 10 Mbit / s with an Ultra II index in the title. If desired, they can be installed in a slot for standard memory cards of this class. For this it is enough to use a special adapter - adapter. The dimensions of such drives are the following: height - 1 mm, width - 11 mm and length - 15 mm.

It is due to such ultra-compact sizes that they can be installed without any problems in a mobile phone, smartphone, MP3 player or GPS-navigator. But this is the main drawback - they are fragile, and they are easy enough to lose. To protect against writing on the case of such devices for storing information and data, a special mechanical switch is provided. It is similar in principle to those that were on older 3.5-inch floppy disks. In one position, data can be easily written and deleted. If you switch it, you can only look at it. A very convenient option that prevents accidental deletion from the MicroSD / TransFlash storage.

Slightly about classes

Recently, before buying try to clarify the class of the memory card. The higher the class, the higher the data transfer rate and the cost of the drive. But again, it all depends on where you plan to apply it. For example, for an ordinary digital camera, this indicator is not critical, and you can buy a less-speed device of the second class. But for a smartphone or mobile phone it is very important, and then the higher this figure, the better. Therefore, the minimum should be here 10th grade, and better - 16th. In general, drives such as MicroSD / TransFlash By this criterion are divided as follows:

  • 2nd class - at least 2 Mbit / s;
  • 4th - 4 Mbit / s;
  • 6th - 6 Mbit / s;
  • 10th - 10 Mbit / s;
  • 16th - 16 Mbit.

From the above statistics it follows that the memory card class is the minimum permissible speed of work with such a drive. If you plan to use a memory card in an MP3 player, then the 2 nd or 4 th classes will do. But for a tablet, where you can watch movies or go through toys, there is simply no alternative to 10 or 16.

Conclusion

The future for MicroSD / TransFlash is MicroSDHC. The amount of such drives can be more than 4 GB, and they gradually supplant their predecessors. This is not surprising. Requests of users to the volume of stored information are constantly growing, and in order to somehow get out of the situation, manufacturers are forced to make new decisions, which in essence is the new standard.
