Due to its unique adaptability to different soils, climate and cultivation conditions, petunia has become one of the most favorite crops for most landscapers and flower growers. It does not require special care, planting petunias into the ground, containers, pots or balcony boxes is quick and without any effort. It gives fragrant and bright cascades of flowers, which please us with all shades of the rainbow, from the first days of summer and until the frosts.

Petunia belongs to the family of solanaceous, semi-shrubby or herbaceous genus of perennials, it can be from 10 cm to 1 m in height. It grows in natural conditions in tropical regions of South America. Basically it is Brazil, Bolivia, Uruguay, Paraguay, Argentina. In North America, one of its species is also found - Petunia parviflora.

Petunia refers to heat-loving and light-loving plants. Perfectly grows in sunny open spaces. But you need to know that the large-flowered representatives are more thermophilic than the petunias are small-flowered, and they can stop blooming in cold wet weather. In the dry period, the plant requires abundant watering, but from stagnation of water will suffer. To have a long flowering, petunia should be fed regularly. Start feeding in a week after you land and do it until August, with an interval of 7-10 days. Complex fertilizers are ideal for abundant flowering, especially if they contain more potassium. The same result is given by fertilizing with humic and organic fertilizers (mullein infusion).

Planting petunia in the ground to a permanent place occurs immediately after the completion of spring frosts, plants perfectly tolerate the transplant. In the middle zone of our country this occurs in May, usually in the second half. And in spite of the heat-loving nature of the culture, its modern varieties calmly tolerate cooling, but only to positive low temperatures. This especially applies to the multiflora group. In the conditions of large cities, the planting of petunia in the soil begins with the end of April, meaning already flowering seedlings.

It is best to plant seedlings to do in the evening or on cloudy days, before the beds are abundantly spilling water. The distance between seedlings depends on the variety and type of planting. If it is a flowerbed, then 15-20 cm for multiflorous varieties, 20-25 cm for large-flowered and at a distance of 25-30 cm requires petunia ampel. Planting and care in containers, pots, balcony boxes is slightly different from the ground landing. In them, the distance between the seedlings can not be more than 10 cm. After the seedlings are planted, the soil around it should be tempered with humus or peat, this contributes to the preservation of moisture in the soil and protects plants from possible frost.

Planting of ampelian petunia and calibraroa should occur taking into account blowing winds, which can severely damage plants. Therefore, for these varieties should be protected from the wind place. Usually for ampel Petunia hanging baskets, balcony or window boxes are used. Especially they will look in combination with lobelia, verbena, ivy, zelenchuk, pelargonium and other ampel plants. On the petunia flower beds look great with fuchsia, fragrant peas, chlorophytum, lobularia, balsam, irises, pansies, tulips, hazel grouses and so on.

Whether there is a planting of petunia in the ground, suspended flowerpots or flowerpots - in any case, these flowers will be a pleasure. Especially when there are a lot of them, and the flowers completely cover the shoots and leaves.
