Pridneprovskaya TPP (Dnepropetrovsk region)

Pridneprovskaya TPP is a large regional thermal power station that provides energy and heat to the Dnipropetrovsk Region. It is located in the suburbs of Dnipro (formerly Dnepropetrovsk) on the left bank of the river of the same name. The installed capacity is 1765 MW.

Creature

In 1951, the construction of the Pridneprovskaya TPP in Ukraine, which was the most powerful in the USSR, began west of the Cossack village of Tsapli. Simultaneously with the production blocks, the town of power engineers of Pridneprovsk was built.

The first power unit with a capacity of 100 MW was launched in 1954. For several years the development of the station was due to the construction of units of the same capacity: three of them were completed in 1955, one each in 1957 and 1958. At the same time, a new VKT-100 turbine was installed on units No. 5 and No. 6, which reduced fuel consumption in comparison with the previous samples by 6%.

Expansion

In 1959, the first unit with increased capacity was commissioned at Pridneprovskaya TPP. The power unit No. 7 was the first in the USSR capable of delivering 150 MW. Afterwards, similar blocks No. 8 and No. 9 (1960), No. 10 (1961) were launched. The turbine of Block No. 11 (1963) had a record capacity of 300 MW. In 1964-1966, two 300 MW facilities were commissioned, bringing the total capacity of the station to 2,400 MW. This was four times higher than that of DneproGES.

Subsequent development

In the period from 1979 to 1983, due to unsatisfactory technical condition of the equipment, the first six units were decommissioned. Also in the future, due to the deterioration of turbines, the power of units No. 11-14 is reduced from 300 to 285 MW.

Between 1980 and 1986, the Dnieper Thermal Power Plant reconstructed blocks No. 7-10. They realized the possibility of working in the heating mode, due to which the station became a supplier of heat to the Pridneprovsky microdistrict and the left bank of the Dnieper. In 2011, modernization of the unit No. 11 was completed with the installation of a new K-310 heating turbine capable of delivering 310 MW. As of the beginning of 2010, blocks No. 12 and No. 14 were in conservation.

To date, the company employs more than 1100 people. Basically, they are residents of Pridneprovsk (a residential area of the Dnieper, founded in the 1950s as a city of power engineers).

Problems and solutions

Because of the conflict in the Donbass in early 2017, Pridneprovskaya TPP was stopped due to a shortage of coal. The thermal power plant was designed to use the Donbass anthracite. Subsequently, it was transferred to gas, but during the crisis with the supply of this type of fuel from Russia returned to the consumption of coal. Attempts to use Australian and South African raw materials are recognized as unsuccessful due to excessively high costs and inconsistencies in a number of characteristics.

In the spring of 2017, the owner of the station "Dniproenergo" decided to transfer it to the use of coal from a gas group, which would avoid the need to purchase anthracite, the production capacity of which was in the territory of the People's Republic of China. By the beginning of the heating season 2017/2018, the transfer of two power units with a capacity of 150 MW is planned, and all the equipment is planned to be converted to the next heating season.

Activities

Pridneprovskaya TPP carries out:

  • Production, supply, transfer, purchase, sale of electric and heat energy in Ukraine and abroad.
  • Operation of power stations, dams, substations, transmission lines and various structures.
  • Organization and conduct of scientific and applied research and development work, the introduction of technical, technological and other developments.
  • Development of mineral deposits, their processing, drilling of wells, reclamation of land and design work.

The company also performs works on installation, dismantling, commissioning and adjustment, electrical measurements and testing, maintenance and repair of production equipment, including electrical installations above 1000 V. Address of Pridneprovskaya TPP: 49112, Dnipropetrovsk region, Dnepr, Gavanskaya-1 street.

Ecological problems

Thermal power plant Pridneprovskaya, which is part of the structure of Dneproenergo, is the main polluter of the environment in the Dnipro region. Considering the high height of the pipes (120-250 m) of the main sources of emissions, the large amount of pollution (from 80,000 to 173,000 tons per year), the inefficient purification of emissions, dust and gas pollution of the atmosphere extends to dozens, and under separate hydrometeorological conditions and hundreds of kilometers from Sources of power plant emissions.
