Gnus is ... What insects are hidden behind this name?

Everyone is happy with the arrival of summer: both children and adults. The weather is warm, the day is longer, which means that you can stay much longer in the street than in winter. But you just have to wait until the sun begins to slope towards the horizon, as the real nightmare begins! On us clouds of some small winged creatures which greedy aspire to suck out from us all blood fly. Especially a lot of them can be found at the river, lake or in another place with high humidity.

Fortunately, today a lot of means are being made to scare off these insects. These are all kinds of creams, gels, ointments, sprays, fumigators. Their help is invaluable. But who bites us all the same? It turns out that not only mosquitoes are capable of this.

Who drinks our blood?

All small Diptera insects that feed on human blood are collectively referred to as gnats. It can be both mosquitoes, and various midge, snaffles, and horseflies. They drink not only human blood, they also like the red liquid of warm-blooded animals. The greatest activity they all show in the first half of the summer.

Gnus is a team of thousands of mosquito species, and hundreds of species of midges, horseflies and slimy. Very unpleasant guys. Depending on the zone of residence, the bastard, the photo of which you see above, can have a different species composition.

Mosquitoes

Human or animal blood mosquitoes like to eat in twilight. And we are talking only about females and only after mating, which for its short life (30-40 days) is repeated many times. Blood is needed for laying eggs, which occurs every two or three days. Each masonry is from 30 to 200 eggs.

A female can smell a cluster of animals or people at a distance of two or three kilometers. Before the start of the meal, the female mosquito injects its saliva into the victim's skin, which prevents blood coagulability, and subsequently causes itching and swelling or an allergic reaction. The bite of the nasal can also cause an allergic reaction. Males feed exclusively on vegetable juices, so their numerous accumulations near the water are not at all dangerous.

The slimy

These are the smallest of Diptera bloodsucking insects. From midges, they are mostly distinguished by the size of the body and the length of the wings. Sometimes their size does not even exceed one millimeter. Slim people like to settle in places with high humidity. Especially they prefer standing ponds, wetlands. Sometimes 10,000 slippers attack a person at once. Their bites are very burning.

Special activity slimy show in the morning, in the evening and in very cloudy weather. They do not like the heat, the optimum temperature for them is 18 ° C. In more often forests, where it is dark and cool, they can attack even during the day. Due to their meager size, these insects can easily penetrate under the clothes. During the day, the slimy people are in the grass, bushes, and tree crowns. People rarely fly into the dwelling.

Midge

If you see insects around you that are strikingly similar to flies, but which are much smaller, it means that the midge is in front of you. The gnus, among which there is a midge, is very bloodthirsty. It happened that an animal or man in the forest was caught by a group of several thousand of these insects. These insidious creatures can penetrate even under clothing.

Biting midges, like mosquitoes, in the morning, in the evening or in the middle of a cloudy day. During the bite, they inject their analgesic saliva, which subsequently causes severe burning and swelling. Moshka is found mainly near fast-flowing rivers.

Sweetbones

The horseflies are the largest representatives of the blood-sucking dipterous insects, which are commonly called gnats. These are large insects, the average size of which is two to three centimeters, but there are also six-centimetric specimens. They are often confused with gadflies. Blood is drunk only by females, going on a hunt in sunny, hot days.

The bites of these insects are extremely painful due to the fact that they let in their skin poisonous saliva. In one sitting the female of the horsefly can drink as much blood as 70 mosquitoes or 4000 sycamores drink. Their name was given to these insects for the fact that during the bite they completely fail to notice the threat looming over them.

Now you know for sure that the bastards are the dipterous blood-sucking insects, which include mosquitoes, midges, slimies and horseflies. The blood of animals and people only drink female specimens, as it is necessary for them to lay eggs. Males for humans are absolutely harmless, since their vegetarian diet includes only the juices of various plants.
