President Francois Hollande: biography, politics, personal life

The current president of France, François Hollande, who held leading posts in the system of state administration, in the past, there were no serious political ambitions.

He felt great in the status of an "executive officer", unquestioningly carrying out the assignments of his superior leader - Prime Minister Jospin. The local press repeatedly wrote that Francois Hollande is a "quiet man" who is the continuer of the political traditions of the former president of the "fifth republic" Mitterrand. At the same time, political scientists note that today's head of the French state does not have much experience in the field of administrative management. However, this circumstance did not prevent Olland from assuming the presidency: especially since this process was accelerated by the fate itself, when one of their weighty candidates, Dominique Strauss, dropped out of the race because of a sexual scandal. What was the path of ascent to the political Olympus of the current president of France?

Facts from biography

Franzois Holland was born on August 12, 1954 in the village of Rouen, which is located in the northern part of France. The mother of the future politician (Nicole Tribert) worked as a social worker at the plant.

Father Francois (Georges Hollande) was engaged in medical practice for the treatment of ENT diseases. Ollande also has brother Philip. Interest in politics in the boy woke up from a young age. He was ten years old when he began to watch the TV channel, on the air of which he often showed Charles de Gaulle himself and Mitterrand who was gaining popularity, who later became the ruler of the country. The boy went to a Catholic school for several years, but when the parents moved to the capital, they gave him to the Lyceum.

Between 1974 and 1975, he learned the basics of entrepreneurial activity at the prestigious business school HEC Paris. He was also a student of another educational institution - the Institute for Political Studies. Young Francois Hollande, whose biography is remarkable already because of his short-sightedness did not want to take him into the army, received a good education. However, before concentrating on a political career, he stated that he must "repay the debt to the Motherland," and fulfilled this mission with dignity.

Studies continue ...

After military service, François Hollande submits documents to the National School of Management and enters this elite educational institution. According to the media, it was during this period of his political career that the young man gets acquainted with the ideas of the socialists in detail and in 1979 joins their party. At the National School of Management, fate confronts him and the future head of the French Cabinet - Dominique de Villepin. Here he is acquainted with the future civilian wife - Segolene Royal, who later becomes his companion in the party.

After the completion of the National School of Management, François Hollande (a French nationality) enters the Accounts Chamber as an auditor.

The beginning of political activity

In 1981 in the "fifth republic" presidential elections are held, and Hollande renders all possible assistance in the struggle for the first place to the representative of the Socialist Party, Mitterrand. He was a consultant on economic issues and was even considered to be his confidant. Later, François Hollande, whose political career was growing after the presidential elections, nominated himself for the National Assembly elections. They are held in the county district of Jussel Correze. Journalists reported that nothing related to this administrative area of the young man. His rival in the election was none other than Jacques Chirac, who called Francois Hollande's policy "Labrador Mitterrand." One way or another, he failed to win the young socialist, although he secured a very substantial support - 26% of the vote.

The posts in which Hollande worked

For six years, from 1983 to 1989, Francois Hollande worked in the county of Jussel as a municipal councilor.

Two years after the presidential election in 1981, he began working in the Cabinet of Ministers of Pierre Maroua, and in 1984 he worked side by side with Roland Dumas, who headed the post of Minister of Foreign Affairs. At the same time, future President François Hollande was invited to the position of adviser to the Accounting Chamber.

In 1988, the politician becomes a parliamentarian from Tulle County Department of Corres, with 53% of the vote.

Between 1988 and 1991, the current president of France François Hollande focuses his efforts on teaching, lecturing at the Institute for Political Studies.

In 1993, he failed in the parliamentary elections and lost his status as a deputy. His interests are temporarily shifted, and he has been practicing law for a while with his friend. But already in 1994, the Socialists trust him as the national secretary of the party.

Hollande again deputy

Three years later, François Hollande again takes a place in the legislature, as the elections to the parliament are won by socialists. This time, the politician again receives a mandate from Tyul. The Cabinet is now headed by Lionel Jospin, who also supported the candidacy of Hollande for the post of head of the French Socialist Party. This post for the politician has become some kind of compensation for the fact that he did not receive a portfolio in the executive branch structure, unlike his many party comrades-in-arms.

Political career "goes uphill"

In 1998, the politician wins local elections in Correze and enlists 43% of voters.

In the period from 1998 to 2001 for the socialist again opens up new political horizons France. François Hollande becomes an assistant to the president of the regional council of the Limusen region, of which Correze was an integral part. He also becomes a member of the European Parliament, but will work in this status for only six months, focusing on activities in the National Assembly.

In 2001, the leader of the socialist party wins the Tula Mayoral election and leaves the position of vice-president of the regional council. A year later, he is re-elected to the National Assembly, having secured almost 53% of the vote.

After some time Francois Hollande suggested organizing a vote inside the party, putting on the agenda the question of the adoption of the "fifth republic" of a pan-European constitution. Most of Olland's fellow party members supported this idea, but the country's citizens in the spring of 2005 were against adhering to the norms of the Basic Law of Europe. At the same time Francois was re-elected head of the Socialist Party.

The wife participates in the presidential elections

In 2007, the next election of the head of state is held in France, and the candidate of socialists is chosen by the civil wife of Hollande-Royal. The politician supports it in every possible way. However, during the second round, she could not bypass her rival - Nicolas Sarkozy, who gets the president's seat.

In the summer of 2007 elections to the French parliament were appointed, and not so many people voted for the socialists: they got 190 seats out of 577.

Hollande focuses on working in Correze

In the spring of 2008, François joins the General Council of Correze, and later heads this body. At the same time, the politician loses the post of the mayor of Tyul, who goes to his companion Bernard Kombu. In the autumn of the same year, Olland decides to leave the other post, the first secretary of the Socialist Party, to devote more time to work in Correze's department. He handed over the reins of the party to Martine Aubrey.

At the end of March 2011, Francois is re-elected to the post of the head of the General Council of Correze. After that, he immediately announced that he intended to participate in inner-party elections in order to represent the Socialist Party in the forthcoming race for the presidency. However, the IMF chief - Dominique Strauss - should have seriously competed with him, however, as noted above, he was involved in a dirty scandal of an intimate nature, so he was forced to withdraw his candidacy.

Election before the elections

And yet in the fall of 2011 Hollande had to prove to his fellow party members that he was worthy to be nominated from the socialists in order to assume the post of head of state. And he managed to soundly voice his comrades-in-arms idea that the policy of Francois Hollande as president of the "fifth republic" will meet the expectations and aspirations of the party leadership.

The Socialist managed to get ahead of his rival Martin Aubrey and win 56% of the votes.

Presidential race

However, to get the post of president of the country, it was necessary to make a lot of efforts. The main rival of Hollande in the first round of the elections in the spring of 2012 was Nicolas Sarkozy, for whom 27% of the votes were cast. François scored 29% of the vote. The second round of elections, scheduled for May 6, 2012, put an end to the political duel: the post of head of the French state went to Olland - 52% of voters voted for him.

Subsequently, the popularity rating of the politician at the post of president has seriously decreased. The reason for this was the adoption of a number of unpopular measures, in particular, the introduction of a luxury tax, the intervention in Mali, the legalization of same-sex marriages.

French President and German Chancellor

In the press there are rumors that Angela Merkel and François Hollande are in love. Well, the head of the French state really does not hide that he is not indifferent to Merkel. In an interview with Le Figaro, he once said that he had been waiting a long time to tell his feelings to the Angel.

But, of course, this is rather a joke, and it's about preserving good-neighborly relations and working together. Hollande also recalled that the history of relations between the leaders of the two countries testifies to productive bilateral work and even to friendship. In addition, he felt it necessary to add that he and Merkel had found a common language: both leaders want to come to a compromise in solving common problems.

Personal life

It is known that Hollande never was officially married. For more than a quarter of a century, he lived with his civil wife, Segolene Royal. The French president is the father of four children: Flora, Julien, Clemens and Thomas. But the relationship between Hollande and Royal was terminated. The politician fell in love with a young journalist Valery Trirveiler. In January 2014, it became known that the president had long been meeting with Julie Gaye (actress). Olland himself stated that the private life of every person is his personal business, and one should treat it with respect.
