Prednisolone Ointment - Description of the drug

"Prednisolone ointment" - a hormonal drug that has a lot of indications for use:

The drug "Prednisolone" is a synthetic analogue of the hormones hydrocortisone and cortisone (excreted by the adrenal cortex). Unlike natural hormones, "Prednisolone Nycomed" does not hold up much water and sodium in the body. The drug has antiexudative, anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic and antitoxic effects. With skin diseases, ointment quite effectively fights against symptoms, having an antiproliferative effect. Results can be seen very quickly, but you can not abuse the drug to avoid the occurrence of numerous side effects.

"Prednisolone ointment" can penetrate the placental barrier. Traces of the drug may be found in breast milk.

Mode of application

Doses are assigned individually. It depends on the daily secretory rhythm of glucocorticosteroid secretion. The dose for adults is 20-30 mg per day. Ointment is applied to clean skin with a thin layer. It is recommended to monitor blood pressure, conduct stool and urine tests, monitor blood sugar levels and ion balance. If "Prednisolone ointment" is planned to be used for a long time, it is necessary to appoint an additional diet, which prevents the appearance of a potassium deficiency. The doctor may prescribe medications containing potassium. To reduce osteoporosis, the drug "Methandrostenolone" is used.

Contraindications:

Diabetes mellitus deserves special attention. "Prednisolone ointment" is prescribed for this disease only in absolute indications: for the treatment of insulin resistance. If the patient is sick with tuberculosis or infectious diseases, the drug should be used only with antibiotics.

Caution should be used prednisolone against the background of anticoagulants, barbiturates and patients suffering from Addison's disease. When breastfeeding the drug is prescribed as a last resort.

Overdose is unlikely. Specific antidotes do not exist.

Side effects:

- Hirsutism;

- obesity;

- acne;

- Osteoporosis;

- hyperglycemia;

- decreased immunity;

- withdrawal syndrome ;

- adrenal insufficiency;

- Steroid cataract;

- mild burning in the place of deposition, slight itching;

- exacerbation of the underlying disease.

Rarely, the occurrence of Isenko-Cushing syndrome (a special symptom-complex) is possible.

Ointment is available in tubes containing 10 g of the drug (0.5%).

Synonyms of the drug: "Dekortin N", "Szegerolon", "Nizolon", "Kodelcorton", "Antizolon", "Paracortol", "Steran", "Delta-Cortef".

"Prednisolone" can not be used haphazardly, like any other hormone drug. Carefully follow the changes in your health and with any alarming symptoms, contact the doctor.

The light should not get into the storage place of the drug. Also watch the expiration date.
