Polyurethane self-leveling polyurethane floor (photo)

Polyurethane and epoxy self-leveling floors are monolithic coatings, which consist of polymer materials. They are distinguished by many advantages. What are good polyurethane self-leveling floors? Customer feedback indicates that such coatings have a very attractive appearance. The materials are fairly practical and durable. In addition, consumers note the ease of installation of structures. In the process of exploitation, according to the owners of residential premises themselves, the coatings exhibit resistance to chemical and mechanical influences. Polyurethane flooring does not collect dust, and care for it is quite simple.

Where is it applied?

The polyurethane floor can withstand very different loads. In addition, it has a decent appearance and practicality. Due to these qualities, the area of its application most often includes the following premises:

  1. Telecommunication enterprises.
  2. Laboratories.
  3. Freezing chambers.
  4. Offices.
  5. Hotels.
  6. Children's and medical institutions.
  7. Machine shops.
  8. Car-care centers.
  9. Parking places.
  10. Buildings of the food industry (where wet technical processes are noted).
  11. Industrial premises.
  12. Cottages, houses and apartments.
  13. Other rooms where there is a high load on the floor surface.

Classification

Single-layer polyurethane flooring has a thickness of up to 0.4 mm. Such coatings are also called thin-layer coatings. They can withstand medium and weak loads. The active effect will scratch the polymer coating and etch it.
Such floors persistently withstand the following:

  1. Fuels and lubricants.
  2. Aggressive environments.
  3. Light bumps.

Their repair can not be called difficult. A single-layer polyurethane floor can be applied in rooms characterized by medium abrasive loads, minimum humidity. In this case, high demands are placed on decorative surface elements.

Two-component polyurethane filling floor

Such coatings are also called highly filled. The thickness of the material is up to 2.5 mm. They can withstand high and medium loads. Such floors are resistant to the following:

  1. Combustive-lubricating materials.
  2. Aggressive environments.
  3. Temperature and chemical influences.
  4. Abrasion wear.
  5. Blows.

This type is easily repaired. Such floors can be used in any premises, which are characterized by high requirements for the decorative coating and its stability. The claimed life is about 10 years.

Device Features

In the section, the polyurethane floor (industrial or household) is a three-layered formation.

Impregnat

It is a low viscosity homogeneous liquid that serves as impregnation for wooden, brick and concrete surfaces.

Two-component coating (polyurethane)

This is a strengthening layer. It is a uniform elastic coating, which is characterized by a high level of adhesion.

Anticorrosive coating

This protective layer is designed to improve resistance to mechanical stress.

Obligatory conditions

Many decide to make a polyurethane filler floor with their own hands. Work can only be carried out with the following requirements:

  1. The surface temperature should not significantly differ from that which is currently fixed in the room. The maximum limit is 3 degrees.
  2. Absence of heaters, forced air movement, drafts and so on.
  3. Relative air humidity is 80%. It should be maintained within a day after the filling is performed, and also during the work itself.
  4. Recommended room temperature is up to 25 degrees.

Substrate preparation

Before laying the polyurethane floor, the surface must be ground, dust-free and absolutely clean. It is necessary to remove all oil stains and loose particles. Thanks to this, the polymer composition will adhere well. The waterproofing layer must be laid on concrete.

Shot blasting

With it, the base becomes rough. This ensures better adhesion of the polymer mixture. Also, thanks to this treatment, fragilely holding pieces are effectively eliminated. In addition, there is a reduction in defects in the surface of concrete.

Grinding

Provides removal of uneven ground, and even in hard-to-reach areas. However, this process clogs the pores of concrete with dust. Thus, adhesion deteriorates significantly. Before applying the polyurethane layer, it is required to check the substrate for cracks and seams. If they are detected, you need to do the following:

  1. Remove dirt and dust from joints (you can use a vacuum cleaner).
  2. Treat the surface with impregnate.
  3. Fill cracks with a putty mixture (its basis should be a polyurethane composition).

Features of priming

It is best to use a roller or spray gun. It is necessary to add quartz sand to the primer. Thanks to it the surface will become rough. This will ensure better adhesion with polymeric materials.

Preparation of the mixture

The most commonly used two-component filler floor or polyurethane primer. All ingredients are mixed according to the manufacturer's instructions. It is recommended to use a mixer with a reverse or direct direction. It is also permissible to mix the components manually. The polymer mixture is prepared in two steps. If a filler is to be used, it should be added during the re-mixing process. The amount of material should be such that you can have time to finish working with it for an hour. After the primer has dried, you can start applying the main polyurethane layer.

Application technology

Lay the polyurethane flooring with a primer from the underlying layer. The rolling is then carried out with a needle roller. After that, the face coating is applied.

Important points

Between the layers there should be a time interval. It is about twenty hours. The temperature in the room should be at least 20 degrees. It is necessary to protect the floor from sunlight and strong humidity. After a day you can start walking on a fresh surface. It is recommended to start the operation and arrangement of furniture after 5 days. A special lacquer is applied on the floor, which is made on the basis of polyurethane. This will provide additional protection against mechanical stress.

"Polymerstone-2"

Polyurethane filling floor of this brand is characterized by high mechanical strength and elasticity. Such a coating is used in premises, which are characterized by increased requirements for abrasive and chemical resistance of the coating. This also applies to high humidity conditions. It can be applied where special hygienic requirements are to be observed.

Such a floor can be laid out on:

  1. Concrete screed.
  2. Old cover.
  3. Rigid metal structures.

It provides impact resistance and wear resistance of the coating, which is resistant to chemical stress. At 1 square. It will take about 1.5 kg of material (with the condition that the thickness is 1 mm).

Precaution

Coating should be carried out in a room that is well ventilated. The material can get on the exposed skin. If this occurs with the eyes, they should be washed immediately with water and seek medical attention. During work, gloves and goggles must be worn .

Necessary tools and devices

  1. Special soles on thorns. They are necessary in order to move on the newly applied coating. Their number should correspond to workers who use needle rollers.
  2. Squeegee with adjustable clearance. With it, the material is evenly distributed over the surface.
  3. Solvent for cleaning tools.
  4. Aeration needle roller. With it, air bubbles are removed.
  5. Putty knife. It is useful in the distribution of material in hard-to-reach places.
  6. Drill with special mixer. It should perform no more than 600 rpm. The size of the mixer is slightly longer than the depth of the container in which the material will be placed.
