Poisoning in children: types, symptoms, treatment

Poisoning in children is not uncommon and is very common. A small child is not always able to cope with toxins that enter his body with various microorganisms.

Traditionally, the following types of poisoning

- Chemicals. Poisoning occurs after use of harmful compounds or inhalation of toxic fumes. It can be medicines, household chemicals, building materials, as well as various gases.

- Food poisoning. Occurs after the child ate stale food. They can be both vegetable and animal. Most often food poisoning in children is observed in the summer.

- Toxicinfections. It occurs if microbes get into the body of a baby along with food. The causative agents of such poisoning are Salmonella, Staphylococcus, Proteus, Escherichia coli, Clostridia.

Poisoning in children is accompanied by the following symptoms

- Allergic reaction. Occurs with a mild form of intoxication of a small organism and manifests itself in the form of rashes, small swelling and child's lethargy.

- Nausea.

- Cutting pains in the abdomen.

- Abundant loose stools.

- Headache.

- Temperature and, consequently, chills.

- Vomiting.

- Pale skin.

- Decrease in pressure.

- Rapid breathing.

- Dryness in the mouth of the baby.

Symptoms usually appear after a couple of hours, but may appear immediately or only the next day.

Poisoning in children has several stages

1. The latent period. It lasts from the moment the toxins enter the body before they enter the blood. Helping a child at this stage can completely rule out poisoning.

2. The action of the poison after it is sucked into the blood. During treatment during this period, symptoms of the disease are removed and toxic substances are removed from the body.

3. Late clinical manifestations of poisoning. At this stage, the symptoms that were caused by toxins in case of organ damage in the child's body are removed and removed. All previously received poisons have already been removed.

4. Restorative stage. During this period, the work of damaged organs is normalized. Its duration for all is individual and depends on the degree of poisoning of the organism.

To cope with the problem, it is necessary to provide first aid to the child and immediately contact the doctor.

How to treat food poisoning in children?

In this situation, it is advisable to try to rinse the stomach and give a large amount of liquid to drink. Before the arrival of a doctor, it is necessary to induce vomiting in the child. However, if the baby is unconscious, then it is contraindicated. Otherwise, he can choke on his vomit.

After getting into the hospital, the baby is washed with a probe using a 0.9% NaCl solution.

How to treat chemical poisoning ?

Before the ambulance arrives, it is necessary to rinse the stomach, give laxative and activated charcoal.

If the poisoning has occurred with medicines, it is worth keeping the package of the drug. It will help doctors to prescribe the right treatment.

If you get into the body of household chemicals, the child should be given a drink of sunflower oil. Vomiting in this case can cause only additional injuries and burns.

How to treat microbial poisoning in children?

As a rule, it is accompanied by a large loss of fluid from the baby's body. Therefore, it is necessary to give the child more fluids and a sorbent that will bind the toxins and help to remove them from the body. Also, the doctor will prescribe the use of drugs that have microelements in their composition, which in this situation, along with the liquid, are washed out of the body.

To avoid such situations, it is necessary to pay more attention to prevention:

- all harmful and poisonous substances and products should be stored in the unreachable area for the baby;

- the products used for cooking the baby should only be fresh and well washed;

- On the street and in public places it is worthwhile to closely monitor the children, so that they do not touch anything extra, especially not taken in the mouth.
