Repair of the plastic of your favorite motorcycle can be made in a car workshop, and you can save money by making everything yourself in your garage. Before commencing repair, it is necessary to determine the brand of plastic material from which the damaged part is made. To do this, look at the reverse side of the product, there is a signature "ABS" or "PP". If for some reason the record is missing, this place is erased or damaged, the mark can be determined by the smell during combustion. To ignite the whole part is not necessary, it will be enough to have a small corner in an inconspicuous place. The "ABS" brand is characterized by a sharp sweetish smell, and the "PP" brand has the aroma of a wax candle. Having determined, you can begin the process of correction.

Using a temperature of about 200 degrees, gradually warming the plastic surface, it is necessary to restore the original shape by mechanical action. Gluing is the process of forming a joint due to the adhesion of the soldered part to the adhesive composition. Plastic repair using the gluing method is popular in the correction of products made of thermosetting plastics. The use of modern adhesive compositions, which are high-molecular compounds, makes it possible to repair both thermoplastics and thermosets, which after solidification are converted into polymeric material. Repair of scooter or motorcycle plastic is most often performed by welding, as it is the most durable and preferred for parts from thermoplastics. By itself, the welding process represents the joining of fragments by fusion.

Repair of motorcycle plastic with self-welding

Having determined the brand of the material and the method of repair, it is necessary to prepare the plastic part, thoroughly washing and cleaning it of the contaminants. The corners of the edges to be welded must be cut off from the inside and from the outside so that triangular gaps are formed to lay the molten plastic. From the pre-prepared additional plastic cut rectangular pieces, the size equal to the width of the gaps. To melt the spiral, heat the wire, while you must be extremely careful not to weld the plastic through, but also to perform a sufficient number of adhering seams. Brew should start from the dead end of the fault, first from inside, and then already outside. After solidification, the joints should be treated with a fine sandpaper to a smooth surface. On this, plastic repair will be completed.
