Cowberry compote: benefits and recipes

Lingonberry is a berry that is widely used in cooking. From it prepare jam, jams, fruit drinks, marmalade, brew like tea, and simply add to the dishes in fresh form. Compote of cowberries is a delicious natural drink that can be cooked at home, and also cook for the winter.

Bright juicy berry contains a lot of useful substances. It contains natural sugars, vitamins (C, B, P), minerals (iron, calcium, potassium), pectic substances and amino acids. And benzoic acid, which is part of the composition, allows for a long time to preserve the berries in their original form. The compote from cowberries turns out tasty and useful, but it is worth remembering that when cooking and adding sugar some of the properties are lost. Fresh berries are stored for a long time, defending themselves against bacteria and rotting.

It is enough to put lingonberries in a clean jar and pour boiled water, and then put in the refrigerator. So it can stand for a very long time, until the next harvest. And those who prefer a delicious sweet-scented compote of cowberries, it is worthwhile in the fall to do it cooking. For this, you need berry, water and sugar. If desired, you can add pieces of fruit: apples, pears, peaches. Few people know that the sourdough of cranberries goes well with the sweetness of beets and carrots.

Cowberry compote: recipe 1

  1. We select ripe healthy freshly picked berries, mine, we throw on a sieve, we let drain water. For one three-liter jar we need 1-1.5 cups of cowberry.
  2. Cooking the syrup. To do this, take 0.5 kg of sugar per 1 liter of water. Sugar is dissolved in water, bring to a boil.
  3. In clean, sterilized cans we fall asleep cranberries, pour hot syrup and pasteurize for 30-40 minutes at a temperature of 85 degrees.
  4. Roll, cover with a towel.

According to this recipe, you can prepare compote from cranberries for the winter, not being afraid that the harvest will deteriorate. If you put a couple of lemon slices in a jar, you can provide long-term storage for 1-2 years.

It is very important to use only fresh berries. Lying, even from the refrigerator, you can cook, but in this case, do not store the compote for a long time.

Many housewives love more concentrated billets, which can be diluted with water if necessary. In this case, the following recipe will help.

Recipe 2 (concentrated compote)

  1. Berries are cleaned from garbage, mine, dried.
  2. Fill a clean jar with two-thirds of the berries or on the shoulders.
  3. Cook the syrup (at the rate of 1 kg of sugar per 1 liter of water), stir constantly, make sure that sugar does not burn.
  4. After bringing the syrup to a boil, pour it into a can of cranberries.
  5. Pasteurized liter capacity of about 10-15 minutes, 2-liter - for 20 minutes, 3-liter - at least 35 minutes.

The drink turns out delicious, but it is not recommended to drink it in large doses to pregnant women. In addition, freshly harvested cowberry is also contraindicated in bearing a child. All the rest, including children, fresh berries will only benefit. However, one must be cautious because of possible allergic reactions.

Those who are going to take cranberries for medicinal purposes, you should know that any treatment, including simply adding sugar, weakens the useful properties of this valuable berry.
