Plant Protection: Some Aspects and Facts

A lot depends on the presence or absence of plants on the planet Earth. Without food a person can manage up to forty days, without water - up to three days, but without air - just a few minutes. But plants supply such an indispensable component as oxygen. Without the participation of plants, there would not be an existing atmosphere in the form in which it is now. And, consequently, there would not exist many living organisms breathing air. Including the person.

Causes of extinction

Scientists warn that in the very near future from the face of the Earth can disappear not less than forty thousand species of plants of tropical and about eight thousand species from areas with a temperate climate. The figures are impressive (or should impress) each of us. That's what plant protection is for!

The main causes of the disappearance of plants have long been known. This is deforestation in the tropics, grazing of numerous livestock, the use of chemicals that affect the ecosystem, the destruction of natural pollinators-insects, the excessive harvest of medicinal herbs on an industrial scale. And if we generalize all of the above, then the destructive and thoughtless activity of man as a species, living on the planet.

Ethical nature of the problem

The necessary protection of plants carries in itself an ethical and moral aspect. There is still no serious scientific justification for this problem. So far, biologists have not answered the questions about what will happen if certain species of plants die out, how the general gene pool of nature depends on this, what are the consequences and rates of such a "payback for evolution".

Only some scientists (for example, Vernadsky) justified not only the interdependence of man and nature, but also united them into one whole - the noosphere, for example. And all these questions (including, in particular, the protection of plants) require us to resolve in the coming years, while the overall biosystem is close to its natural norm.

What does this mean?

Plant protection primarily means supporting natural processes occurring in nature. It is necessary to help restore the disturbed balance and eliminate the consequences of the harmful effects of man, his unreasonable interference in the activities of our common ecosystem.

Whether a joke: for the last some tens years in day one plant has disappeared from the face of the earth, and in a year - on one animal. Horrifying in its cynicism, the genocide of nature! Therefore, the protection of plants and animals that disappear from the face of the earth should become the first priority for humanity in the near future.

Red Book

Of course, we can not say that nothing is done in this respect. From the documents of the state level, protecting endangered species of plants and animals, you can recall the Red Book. More than four hundred species of flowering plants, about twenty species of algae, more than thirty species of fungi, about ten species of gymnosperms and ferns are already included in it from plants.

Among the endangered - the famous Pitsunda pine, snowdrop common, Crimean peony, Lessing feather grass, Schulk tulip and many others. These plants are under state protection. For their illegal cutting down, destruction and use is provided for responsibility (according to the legislation).

Protection of rare plants: basic measures

Of these, the most relevant in the modern world is the isolation and protection of habitats. Actively (but not as much as we would like) are created and developed reserves, national parks, sanctuaries, which ensure the continuation of the existence of endangered plant species (and animals). In many civilized countries, programs have been developed and are being implemented to protect the environment in every way possible , and to rational use of natural resources by mankind. After all, if we do not take the necessary measures on time, many plants will disappear completely from the face of the earth, and it will be impossible to fill these gaps.

Botanical Gardens

Botsad and experimental stations play a huge role in maintaining plant populations, studying and preserving endangered species. They contain certain necessary collections of living plants - representatives of local and exotic flora, contribute to the study and cultivation of plants, the creation of new, more productive forms and species. Among the promising developments are studies on the acclimatization of plants, adaptation to new living conditions in other natural zones. Botanical gardens also carry out educational tasks, promote the achievements of botany science.

The role of plants in human life

Only in recent decades, humanity has fully realized the role of plants in people's lives. Although not one existing species can be prevented from disappearing from the face of the earth, some scientists and educators have said for a long time.

With the extermination of greenery, people will lose a great deal that contains the surrounding world. Protection of plants, in turn, should prevent this. After all, this part is not only a necessary source of health, but also an aesthetic component of the art world, which inspired and inspires many artists and writers to create masterpieces of art.

But the most important masterpiece is our common Motherland, whose name is the planet Earth! And so it is necessary, especially in recent times, all of us take care of its green population, so that our descendants can enjoy the diversity of species of plant life.
