Piece-rate work

There are many forms of pay, but they are all based on piecework or time-based. Two of these forms have their pluses and minuses.

In itself, wages perform many important functions. These functions are implemented in the payment system, which can be beneficial to the employer, employee or both at the same time. The interests of the parties may coincide, but they may also diverge. The interests of workers realize the reproductive function of wages, the employer - the stimulating function .

Piece-rate work

It can be different. Indirectly-piece labor payment is used to pay for people engaged in servicing jobs, equipment and other things. It is calculated according to the tariff rate. Direct piece-rate work is calculated on the basis of the direct volume of work performed.

It may seem that for any worker it will be the most profitable and convenient. It may also appear that it is beneficial to the employer, since the amount of payments will directly depend on how much the worker has made. Piece pay has its advantages. Perhaps the most important of them will be that the payment directly depends on the result. The employee is interested in the speed of production, which means that the interests of the employer are very, very successful. The worker does not need to be heavily controlled, since by doing little, he will simply get less than usual. In some cases, piece-rate work really attracts workers who agree to work at a pace, efficiently and responsibly.

The employee always has the opportunity to increase his income by exceeding the norm. It should also be noted that such a job is taken without special checks and often without paperwork.

Studies have shown that an employee on a piece-rate basis works harder than an employee on a per-hour basis. The pace of production in the transition to piece-rate payment can significantly increase.

Pluses really a lot. Some of them seem obvious. However, it is worth noting that, nevertheless, many employers today prefer to use time-based pay. Yes, there are plenty of minus signs.

The disadvantages include the fact that the employer is not always able to take into account the factors that do not depend on workers in any way, but influence the development. In the event that earnings do not depend on the results, it is unlikely that someone will be zealous. On a poorly organized workplace, it is sometimes difficult to perform even basic work. Any downtime due to equipment breakdown, of course, is not paid for. This means that at the end of the working day a person can leave his place of work with an empty pocket.

It is important to note that the interests of employers and people working piece-work often do not coincide. The first want to get the highest quality goods, while the latter try to do as much as possible, but do not pay attention to the quality of attention. Piece-work pay leads to the fact that the employer has to spend money on additional quality control of the products.

Collective motivation may suffer. Piece-work pay leads to the fact that a person works exclusively for himself, not thinking about the success of the team, or the success of the whole enterprise. Incentives to achieve results in the long run are also absent.

Excessive rush can lead to too frequent equipment breakdowns. Inaccuracy, fuss, careless handling - this all leads to the fact that the technology simply fails out of order too early.

Workers who have good skills in one or another field of production will sooner or later realize that piece-rate labor provides too few guarantees for tomorrow.
