Home crow: conditions of detention, feed

When you hear that one of the familiar houses has a bird in a cage, a parrot or canary immediately appears before your eyes. In fact, it could be an ordinary gray crow. She is extremely clever and smart, and looks very elegant, so she can become a pet and recognize a man as a master. If such a bird is interested in you, you should know how to take care of it and under what conditions. In this article, you can find the information you need.

The gray crow: photo, description

Outwardly, according to its constitution, the domestic gray crow is a bit like a rook. Only the physique is denser and the wings are wider. Its weight does not exceed 650-700 g. The beak is slightly inclined downwards. The wings, tail and head of these birds are completely black, they seem to shimmer with metallic luster. The body of the bird is gray, so it is called a black sheep. Brown color plumage is observed only in young individuals. Oral cavity pink, blue eyes.

Intellect of birds

Observing the mode of life of crows, ornithologists noted that these birds possess extremely developed intelligence. They are in any circumstances able to turn the situation in their favor. For example, crows living on city streets collect food on the roadway of the road only when the red light is on the traffic light.

On a walk in the forest, you can see that crows are not afraid of ordinary tourists and completely ignore mushroom pickers. But, if in their field of vision the hunter, who has a gun in his hands, falls, the birds become restless, feeling danger.

Crow maintenance in the house

In a city apartment to keep a crow is difficult, and the bird in the cage feels uncomfortable, it needs space. If you decide on such a pet as a gray crow, it's best that you live in a private country house, then you can equip such a restless feathered pet aviary and create proper conditions of detention. The house crow must have "apartments" with dimensions not less than 1x2 m, the height of the enclosure is two meters and not less. In a bird house it is desirable to place a dry tree with horizontally located branches. If this is not possible, adjust the perch in different aviaries.

The floor must have a coating that is easy to clean. From above, it is sprinkled with sawdust or moss. As necessary, cleaning is carried out, during which the old litter is replaced with a new, clean one. Drinkers and feeders should not stand without fastening, the bird will quickly overturn them.

If you decide that your pet is flying around the house, it is better to immediately abandon this idea. The thing is that a crow can not be called a calm and plodding bird. This creation is overly active and also curious. In just a few minutes of free flight around the room, the house crow can scatter things, break off the wallpaper, knock over small flowerpots with flowers, or nakkodit in some other way. In a word, harm to your home is provided, if you do not equip the restless, active bird aviary.

How to care for a crow at home?

Caring for a house crow is not difficult, the main thing is to know her habits and what she needs for a normal existence in captivity:

• It is necessary to establish a birch log for sharpening claws and beaks.
• That the bird does not miss the aviary and spoil the interior created by you, give it shiny balls or other toys.
• Put a container of bathing water in the enclosure several times a week. The house crow is very fond of water procedures and can splash in the water every day.

As you can see, everything is simple enough, in addition to the fact that this bird has to be cleaned quite often, it does not differ with accuracy.

What to feed a crow at home?

The indisputable plus of such a pet, as a gray crow, is that this creature is omnivorous. The only condition that must be met when preparing a ration for a crow is the variety of "dishes". In the main menu, the feather consists of the following products: chicken giblets, boiled or raw meat, various cereals, eggs, fish, vegetables and fruits, bread.

In addition to the above, crows can eat with pleasure frogs, insects, chicks and all sorts of plant foods. For wild birds, the main food is food waste.

For normal growth and development of domestic crows it is necessary to give vitamin-mineral supplements. With food, it is not recommended to mix them, instead place them in a separate feeder so that the bird chooses what it needs.

The ration of chicks is not much different from the adult menu. The first time to put feathered toddlers to themselves, they are fed from their hands. Then gradually accustom to eat from the feeder yourself. Nestlings are recommended to prepare mushrooms from the following products: porridge, meat and vegetables. The last two ingredients should be finely chopped.

In the availability of a feathered pet should always be fresh clean water. In order not to harm the bird, it is impossible to feed her with sharp, salted, fried foods and meat of fatty varieties.

Walking

Surprisingly, crows, despite their restless disposition, easily learn and get used to the leash. Of course, this is not a dog or a cat, so in such walks you need to observe some precautions:

• During the training of crows, the hand must be in a leather glove.
• Pick up equipment for walking very carefully so that the bird will not be injured afterwards.
• On walks, make sure that there are no relatives nearby. Large clumps of wild crows can cause your home pet to want to join their free way of life. There are times when a crow races against foreign birds, trying to protect their territory. This, too, can turn into tragedy and trauma for her.

If there is no way to walk with a crow in the fresh air, then the owner of this feathered beauty should provide her with enough UV rays in the house. The ideal option in this situation are sunbathing. In this case, it is necessary to take into account the fact that ultraviolet does not pass through the glass. To date, scientists have not come to an unequivocal answer to the question of how much the gray crow lives. It is only known that in captivity this bird can live up to 18-20 years with proper care. The domestic crow requires a lot of patience from his master, but in the end becomes a devoted and intelligent feathered friend for him.
