Pepper spray: effects of eye contact, assistance

Self-defense skills can be useful in different cases. Not everyone has the opportunity to attend special courses or to obtain permission for weapons. But there is still a way out. You can buy pepper spray, which does not need to issue additional permits. The main thing is to learn how to properly store and use your pepper spray. The consequences of thoughtless actions may not be very pleasant.

What are the cans?

Cans for self-defense can be of two types: gas marked CS and pepper labeled OC. In the first case, they spray gas, causing profuse lacrimation. In the second case - extracting hot pepper, provoking an attack of suffocation, burning of the skin and coughing.

It is believed that gas canisters are protected more efficiently, but they may not work for a drunk or a drug addict at all. In the case when a pepper spray is used, the attacker will feel the consequences in any condition. You can even repel the attack of aggressive animals.

Spreading options for content

Pepper sprays are produced with different types of spraying:

  1. The jet version, that is, a directed jet with a long range of action. The option is suitable for people with good accuracy, but makes it difficult for self-defense if there are several attackers.
  2. The aerosol variant, that is, the spraying occurs as a cloud, causing a larger area of damage. When using this option in enclosed spaces, certain difficulties may arise, since it is easy to get yourself into the pepper cloud.

Variations of volume

Pepper cans, the effects of which we will consider, are issued in several volumes:

  1. The minimum pocket version is 25 ml.
  2. The average version is 75 ml.
  3. Option for storage in a car or apartment - from 100 to 650 ml.

Rules that are worth remembering

To effectively protect yourself with a pepper spray, you need to remember a few rules that will help in dangerous situations.

First, you need to be able to use a can. The first time is to buy two pieces to practice on one, and use the other for self-defense.

Secondly, the container must have a specific storage location. This is very important, because you will not have time to search. Before a dangerous section of the road it is generally worth taking in hand. Keep pepper spray in a women's handbag - a useless exercise. In the extreme case of time, to simply unfasten the lightning and find a self-defense tool in the bowels of its own , there simply is not. The striker will have time to strike first.

Third, after using the pepper spray, you need to be prepared for two options for the development of the situation. You either have to enter a fight with a weakened opponent, or quickly escape.

And then again, in the winter, if you have supercooled (frozen) pepper spray, the consequences can be quite sad. The effectiveness of the application will significantly decrease: instead of temporarily neutralizing the attacker, you will simply anger him.

Action of pepper spray

Well, now find out how the pepper contents of the can. Extraction of hot pepper provokes a strong irritation of the mucous membranes. In the easy case, the attacker begins to cough heavily. If the moment of sprinkling coincides with a deep inhalation, then pulmonary edema is not excluded, and, with a tendency to allergies, the victim may suffocate. If an asthmatic was exposed to the effects of pepper extract, a fatal outcome is also possible. Such cases have been described in judicial practice.

If a cloud or spray comes from the pepper spray into the eyes, the consequences are also very unpleasant. In addition to profuse lacrimation, blepharospasm occurs. The muscles of one or both eyes begin to contract uncontrollably, not allowing them to open their eyes. The attacker will need time to blink, which means that you have the opportunity to escape.

If the balloon accidentally fell into the hands of children or you are exposed to the effect of drawing hot peppers themselves, then you should know the rules of first aid or self-help. If possible, after an incident, see an ophthalmologist.

How to eliminate the consequences

If you are under a spray or a cloud, it is advisable to quickly eliminate the effects after the pepper spray. The algorithm of action in this case is not very complicated:

  1. Do not rub your eyes, even if they are very bake and watery.
  2. Blink often so that tears wash away the pepper extract.
  3. Gently pat the eyes with a damp napkin without alcohol.
  4. Rinse the eyes with fatty milk, then with a soda solution. Concentration - 20 g per 1 liter of water.

In the future, try to be careful when using pepper spray. How to get rid of the consequences yourself, you now understand. And the ophthalmologist will further assess the extent of the lesion and recommend eye drops. Most often this is a commonplace "Albucid" or anesthetic and anti-inflammatory drops with diclofenac. In case of severe burning, drops with lidocaine may be recommended, but they must be applied strictly according to the instructions, so that the visual acuity does not decrease. Only "Vizin" can be used on its own, but this remedy eliminates redness rather than helps to overcome the consequences of contact with pepper extract.

If you are allergic or asthmatic, also show your doctor to avoid serious consequences from the effects of pepper spray.

Responsibility for the use of pepper spray

If the can is used for self-defense, there will be no consequences for you. But if the irrigant is used for no apparent reason, then this can be regarded as petty hooliganism. If harm to health is caused, then the responsibility will depend on the severity of the harm. If the can is used for no apparent reason and the victim is dead, then the criminal liability for causing death by negligence occurs.
