Pass Baidarskie Gates

Baidar Gate is a mountain pass through the main cascade in the Crimea. Through it you can leave the valley, which is called Crimean Switzerland, and get to the southern coast of the peninsula.

Creature

Baidar Gate - the point where there is a nearby road for cars Yalta - Sevastopol, built in 1837-1848. The initiator of its creation was the Governor-General Mikhail Vorontsov, who was in charge of the Novorossiisk region at that time.

At the local pass is a unique architectural monument Baidarskie Gates, whose history is quite interesting. It was created in 1848. The project was created by the architect Karl Eshliman. Baidarskie gates erected, timed the date of the opening just at the end of construction work on the road from Yalta to Sevastopol. And the result truly anticipated all expectations.

Structure

Over time, this point became one of those sights with which the tourist of Yalta attracts to itself.

Baidar's gates have the appearance of a large portico, the parts of which are blocks. The main building material for them was chosen very common limestone in this area.

Cornice of the gate is complex in its structure. On both sides the portico is surrounded by pedestals of rectangular shape, constructed of the same material. By the way, thanks to them, a sample of the classic type of structure acquired monumentality. The curbstone on the right has a space with an area of 30 square meters.

You can admire the surrounding landscape from two observation platforms, climbing them to the top of the propellers - you will pass along a magnificent flight of stairs. The view that the Baidar Gate gives to its visitors is beautiful. The Church and village of Foros, as well as the local valley, will be on the palm of your hand, capturing the imagination with its beauty. This is a grandiose panorama - there is not much to touch with such magnificence.

Where to stay

In the period before 1917, with the subsequent resumption in the 1920-1930s, there were two rather inferior hotels. The first was on the left side of the gate, and the second - directly behind them. Nearby you could find a post office, where in a special room, passing could be accommodated for a while. Now the need for a lodging at this place has disappeared, and there are no hotels anymore.

But, the Baidar Gate itself has a popular restaurant complex called "Shalash", where you can taste delicious food after you enjoy your aesthetic and cognitive needs.

Road

To the pass Baidarskie gates you can get, if you proceed between the mountains of Chelebi and Chkhu-Bair, whose height is respectively 647 and 705 meters in the eastern part. The point itself has a height of 503 m, if taken from the sea level.

Observation platforms open the eyes of tourists a beautiful landscape. In the distant past, wanderers often made stops in local hotels, since the road at that time was quite distant, and for those traveling to Yalta, the place of rest was precisely the Baydar Gate.

How to get from Sevastopol to the famous pass, and now many know. From the route leading to Yalta, you need to proceed to Vorontsovskoye highway from the church building of Christ's Resurrection. Then it only remains to rise.

When you do this trip, you definitely want to refresh yourself with local chebureks from the famous "Shalash". During the summer, you can buy souvenirs here. You are waiting for wooden articles and works of stone, sets of essential oils, interesting literature, beautiful postcards and many other interesting things.

Stunning Beauty

This place can be considered a precious pearl of the Crimean mountains, despite the fact that this point is not so high. However, this can not be called the most important criterion for assessing sights. Much more important is the aesthetic pleasure that you will get when you climb the pass.

Many people come to see the gates themselves. On paper, this point has not been recognized as an architectural monument, however, having visited here, it is difficult to agree with such a thing. After all, everything seen here, is the deepest admiration.

The most important highlight is the layout, which allows an inexpressible feeling to embrace the souls of those who come here to relax on the observation deck.

Standing next to the fence, you can feel as if the ground is running out from under your feet, and you soar in the air, looking to the sides. All this is due to the height above sea level, the wind, as well as the stunning landscapes of the Crimea.

Strategic importance

Previously, this gate was closed when the earth was enveloped in darkness or the weather was bad. Also in the 19th century, it was quite common that robbery was practiced by fans of easy money on the roads. Few people wanted to meet with them, so such a barrier was very useful.

This point was strategically important during the Second World War. In the autumn of 1941, a detachment of border troops, commanded by Terletsky, kept fascist soldiers here for 24 hours. Thus the forces of the Red Army were able to leave for Sevastopol. And those frontier guards who survived joined the detachment of partisans, but the command fell into Nazi captivity and was shot.

Terletsky was an outstanding warrior, in honor of which a monument was erected in the village of Foros. The German occupants, however, saw a plan for undermining the gates. Fortunately, for some reason, things never came to the end.

Now the local attractions can enrich the minds of visitors in a cultural and historical sense. Many things happened here. Having come here, you can feel yourself a part of the royal time with its beautiful palaces and picturesque manors.
