Oil for lawnmowers: how to change it correctly and what kind of liquid it is better to pour

Lawn mower is a very useful thing for those who need to periodically mow grass on lawns and other plots of land. However, with the acquisition of this tool, do not forget that he, like any other mechanism, requires periodic maintenance. One of these moments is the oil change. How to change the oil in a lawn mower, what kind of liquid is better to fill? The answer you will learn from the article.

Why is it important to observe periodicity?

First, let's analyze how important it is to periodically change the oil in the lawn mower. Firstly, this fluid provides air cooling of the mechanism, thereby allowing the engine to operate at extremely high revs. Secondly, the lawn mower oil protects its parts when stored in the winter.

How often should I change the liquid?

It should be noted that the frequency of oil change depends on the technical condition of the motor. For example, if the engine on the lawnmower is new, the fluid must be changed immediately after running-in. In terms of time this is approximately 5-6 hours of operation of the mechanism. In order for the various garbage not to penetrate inside and accumulate in the engine, it is necessary to replace the liquid several times with a frequency of 5-10 hours.

If the motor is not new, the oil for the lawnmower can be changed about once every 25-50 hours of the tool. This is an average of 2-3 months of work. Also, the condition of the oil can be determined without measuring the number of hours worked. Just make sure that it does not begin to acquire a black tinge. When this happens, be sure to change the fluid, otherwise the engine can simply jam.

Change of oil

And now about how to change the oil in the lawn mower. The whole process can be divided into several stages:

  • First, the old liquid is drained.
  • Further, the mower turns on its side (on the side where the drain hole is located) for several minutes, until the spent liquid completely drains. Then the tool is put back to the horizontal position. It is necessary to prepare a small container for the old oil in advance.
  • After that, a new one is poured into the lawnmower through the neck.

Everything, at this stage, the replacement of oil can be considered complete. When you fill a new liquid in the neck, remember that it must be poured strictly up to the specified mark in the crankcase.

What kind of oil for lawn mowers should I choose?

It should be emphasized that a certain type of fluid and its viscosity directly depends on the temperature conditions in which this tool is operated. So, if the weather is warm (temperature from plus 5 to plus 30 degrees Celsius), it is recommended to use the SAE-30 series liquid. In the inter-seasonal season, experts recommend pouring oil for lawn mowers with a viscosity of 10W-30. In winter, you can use a liquid series 5W-30. Also worth paying attention to Synthetic 5W-30, which in its properties provides reliable operation of the mower parts at a relatively low temperature.
