Oil for ATV: characteristics and features of choice

The elements of the gearbox, gearbox and motor, subject to friction, are under constant influence of temperature changes and high loads. Proper selection of oil and its systematic replacement improve the quality of the engine and prevent premature wear of parts. The oil for the ATV should be replaced in a timely manner in such nodes as the gearbox, bridges and engine.

How to choose?

The composition can have a synthetic, synthetic and mineral base. Each variant is selected in accordance with the system load, season of operation and climatic conditions. For different ATVs suitable oil of different brands. Before choosing one or the other option, it is necessary to familiarize yourself not only with the manufacturer's recommendations, but also with the characteristics and properties of the composition.

Varieties

The base used to make the oil provides the required characteristics of the liquid. Synthetic oil "Lukoil Lux" is made from organic compounds, consists of identical molecules, has chemical stability and resistance to temperature influences. The main disadvantage is the high cost, because of what it, as a rule, is used in new engines.

Mineral oil for the ATV costs significantly less and is made from refined products. Despite the fact that, according to some indicators, it loses somewhat to the synthetic analog, the composition ensures the full functioning of the power device. It will be the best option for use in climatic conditions with a minimum temperature level of -15 degrees for the operation of a motor that has sufficient mileage.

Polysynthetic oil "Lukoil Lux" Contains in its composition a mineral and synthetic basis. It combines the characteristics of the two types of oils mentioned above, and is recommended for use in modern high-mileage engines.

What kind of oil should be poured into the ATV?

Selection of the composition is made depending on the version of the gearbox. No less attention should be paid to viscosity, as it provides a long-term preservation of the liquid on rubbing elements. For its designation, two digits are used, the first of which reflects the crankability and engine start temperature. The second value indicates the viscosity level when operating at high temperatures. With the increase of this parameter, the number indicated on the package increases. Compositions with a high viscosity level are not suitable for conventional power engines, as they lead to malfunctioning and reduced power. They are the best option for powerful and sporty devices. Therefore, as noted earlier, the oil for the ATV is selected in accordance with the instructions of the vehicle manufacturer.

Transmission

One of the most important components is the gearbox, which also requires compliance with the required oil level and its systematic replacement. The box can be mechanical, semi-automatic and automatic. The latter variant became most widespread on low-power and children's ATVs. Semi-automatic system can be found in vehicles that have the function of connecting the all-wheel drive under the established road conditions. The mechanical box is used on sports quadracycles.

The viscosity of the oil used in the gearbox is selected individually, depending on the conditions and the required characteristics. For example, automatic gearboxes require gear oil for ATV, while for mechanical ones, any type of fluid can be used. With regard to the choice of the degree of viscosity, this parameter is selected taking into account the version of the checkpoint and its thermal load.

What do I need to know?

The instructions given on the package show approximate oil change intervals. When buying a new ATV, it's worth considering the run-in period, during which it does not require the use of a new train. On average, the replacement of filter elements and the oil itself is made every 1000 km. With the same interval, diagnostics and maintenance of other systems are performed.

Naturally, do not forget about unscheduled maintenance, which is difficult to prevent, because the transport can both get stuck in the mud, and get into the water. After such incidents it is recommended to disassemble it to remove contaminants and moisture. New oil in the ATV reducer is poured after the reverse assembly and complete drying.

Compliance with the rules will extend the life of the equipment and prevent premature wear of important parts subject to constant loads. At the same time, systematic maintenance is no less important.
