Nozzles in the car: where are they located and what are they used for?

Many car owners, visiting the masters at the service station, listen to them that it is necessary to rinse or replace the injectors. At the same time motorists do not know what it is. What is an injector in a car and what is it for?

Short description

All existing diesel and gasoline internal combustion engines have a system for fuel injection. The nozzle is an analog of the pump, which supplies a powerful but very thin jet of fuel. This is an integral part of the injection system. Where the nozzles are located and what their principle of operation is, will be explained later.

Types of injectors

The injector is a solenoid valve controlled by a special program in the unit controlling the engine of the car. It is thanks to the nozzle that the fuel is fed into the cylinders in doses. If they say about the injector, then here is meant a system of controlled injectors.

There are several types of injectors that are designed:

  • For distributed fuel injection;
  • Central injection;
  • Direct injection.

Principle of operation of injectors

The fuel from the frame to each individual nozzle is fed under the necessary specific pressure. Electrical impulses come from the control unit to the electromagnet of the injectors. They use a needle valve, the purpose of which is to open and close the nozzle channel. The duration of the arrival of the electric pulse depends on the duration of the opening of the needle valve and the amount of fuel supplied. This duration is regulated by the unit that controls the engine. In addition, different types of injectors can create several forms of fuel torch, as well as change its direction. And this greatly affects the mixture formation in the engine.

Location:

Many do not know about the nozzles in the car. Where are these elements located? Their location depends on the type of injection:

  • With central fuel injection, one or a pair of injectors are located inside the intake manifold, near the throttle. So, the nozzle is a replacement for an already obsolete device - the carburetor.
  • With distributed fuel injection for each cylinder, their nozzles are installed in the car. Where are they in this case? At the base of the pipeline for the intake, into which the injection of fuel injector.
  • With direct fuel injection, they are located in the upper region of the cylinder walls. They inject fuel into the combustion chamber itself.

Here is the location of the nozzles in the car. Where these parts are located, it became clear.

Washing

Due to the fact that there are harmful impurities in the fuel, often deposits on the nozzles. They need to be washed. This operation implies the washing out of unnecessary dirt from the nozzle system. The nozzles can be rinsed with a special liquid. It is also called a special additive. In this case, the injectors themselves can not even be removed from the engine. This additive is added to the fuel, and the engine is forced to work on this mixture a couple of thousand kilometers. It is possible to carry out a quicker rinse without removing the injectors from the engine. For this purpose, a special installation is used. It is connected to the motor at the place of the fuel pump. The solvents themselves are fed into the nozzles themselves. This is a special fuel for washing. The time of such a process is about fifteen minutes.

The nozzles from the deposit can also be cleaned with ultrasound. This method already implies removing them from the engine.

Results

Thus, it becomes clear that such injectors in the car, where they are, how they work, what they need. Obviously, these are very important parts of the engine, without which its work is impossible. It is necessary to monitor their serviceability, and also regularly wash them.
