New Olympic discipline slopestyle. What it is?

The program of the Winter Olympic Games, which took place in Sochi in 2014, included as many as 7 types of new competitions, including a very spectacular and dangerous slopestyle. And if figure skating, curling, bobsleigh and other disciplines have long been familiar to the Russian fan, today many people ask themselves: "Slopestyle - what is it?"

General characteristics of the type of competition

This type of competition is held in several sports. These include snowboarding, freestyle and mountainboarding. In general, disciplines are called one word - slopestyle. What is it, is known far from everyone. If you translate the word "slopestyle" verbatim, you get "style skiing on the slope." The main condition is the participant's performance of a series of various acrobatic jumps on successively located pyramids, trampolines, drops, counter-inclines, rails, etc. This type of sport implies high technical training of the athlete.

Tricks must be performed with increased accuracy, otherwise the speed will be lost, so that subsequent tricks can not be performed. Obstacles can be located either in one or in several rows. On a certain section of the route the participant can choose exactly those figures that impress him more than others.

Ski slopestyle. What it is?

Ski slopstyle, or, as it is also called, ski slopestyle is a relatively new discipline of freestyle. This discipline won many in the world championships and the 2014 Olympic Games. This kind of competition is considered the most interesting and spectacular in freestyle. The athlete must perform a series of tricks on the cleavage, which is equipped with obstacles. These include railing (rails), springboards and a wall with a stop (quaterpipe). Each competitor has two attempts to arrive in one round.

Tricks are evaluated by a competent jury on the point system. Impeccable execution of a single trick will never bring victory. This competition means entertainment and variety. To win and score the most points, you must take advantage of each type of obstacle. To date, the Canadian team takes the first position in the ski slopestyle.

Slopestyle in snowboarding

Slopstyle snowboarding also implies the implementation of a consistent bundle of tricks on a specially equipped slope. For slopestyleers, 5-8 figures of jibbing and 3-4 springboards are usually installed. Discipline has reached a very high level. Ryder performs very heavy stunts in the air. The uninformed viewer often does not even understand the essence of a single trick.

What do the judges pay attention to?

When performing various elements, judges pay attention to the following elements:

  • Svich - this performance of a trick from an uncomfortable rack (for example, a left-hander performed a combination in the right-hand column);
  • Backside / frontside is the twisting of the body in the axis, which passes through the center of the board and the top of the athlete;
  • Triplecrock is a trick, during which the athlete's head "dives" three times below the board;
  • Style - this is the ease of the athlete in performing even the most complex tricks. Using the OI coefficient, the athlete's style is assessed.

Incredible tricks, entertainment and confidence of the athlete - this is slopestyle. What is it is now clear. Real slopestyle players appreciate this kind of competition freedom of expression, constant improvement of style, spontaneity and dynamics. If desired, the trick can be changed already in the air. Classical sports do not take this freedom, creating a rigid framework and a certain sequence for the competition participant.
