Murinsky Park in St. Petersburg
The city of St. Petersburg is traditionally famous for its diverse landscape park areas. They are located both in the city itself, and in its closest historically famous neighborhoods. Murinsky park in Kalininsky district is one of the youngest objects of this kind. In fact, it is in the process of formation. The intention to equip the park in this place was first proclaimed by the city authorities in the eighties of the last century. But the real work on the arrangement of the park zone in the floodplain of the Murinsky stream began about twenty years later.
What is the Murinsky Park today?
The park's territory is significant, totaling 115 hectares. In this part of the city extensive green areas are not so much. This circumstance makes it a natural recreational zone for residents of the Kalininsky district of St. Petersburg. In the composition plan Murinsky Park is a landscape design of the natural floodplain of the Murinsky stream, which is a tributary of Okhta. In the process of arrangement of the park area, a significant amount of work has been done to reclaim the land. A significant problem is the ecological state of the Murinsky Stream itself, into which polluted run-offs from large areas uncontrollably merge. Nevertheless, the administration manages to maintain the cleanliness of the park at an acceptable level. Its territory has both for walking and for active recreation.
Conceptual art project
"Garden sculptures" - one of the most interesting projects with which the famous Murinsky Park. Photos of these sculptural objects were repeatedly published in periodicals devoted to the problems of town planning and landscape design as an example of the correct placement of large sculptural forms in a natural environment. The origin of this project in the distant 1985 was the famous Leningrad sculptor Alexander Chernitsky. Unfortunately, only six of the six granite works of the master have survived to the present day. But the very idea of a garden of sculptures in the open air has a huge potential for development. In St. Petersburg, many sculptural workshops, and masters, who work in them, need exposure areas for their works. And Murinsky Park for this is a suitable site. Similar projects have been successfully implemented in many European cities.
