Mtsyri: summary

To your attention - a brief summary of Mtsyri Lermontov. The poem tells about the tragic history of the highland boy, whom the Russian general captured. While the military was carrying the child with him, the kid became very ill. The monks of the monastery, near which the general was passing by, regretted the small mountaineer and left to live at his place, where he grew up. So the young Mtsyri lived far from his homeland. This life seemed to him the life of a prisoner, the boy passionately missed his native side.

Gradually Mtsyri learned a foreign language, he seems ready to accept other customs, he was already going to be ordained as a monk. And at this moment, on the eve of his initiation, a strong spiritual impulse awakens in the minds of a seventeen-year-old boy, who forces him to flee the monastery. Picking up a good moment, Mtsyri escapes. He runs, not analyzing the road, he is overwhelmed with a sense of will, the young man remembers his childhood, his native speech, his relatives. The boy is surrounded by beautiful Caucasian nature, sees a beautiful Georgian woman who fills water from the spring, admires her beauty and, in conclusion, fights a powerful leopard that inflicts wounds on him.

The fugitive is looking for the whole monastery, but they find it in 3 days completely strangers in the vicinity of the monastery of Mtskheta. (Mtskhet - the ancient capital of Georgia, located at the confluence of the rivers Argava and the Kura). Mtsyri lay unconscious and was brought to the monastery. Already being in familiar walls, the young man regains consciousness. He is very exhausted, but still refuses to eat. Mtsyri realizes that his escape was unsuccessful. It kills in him the desire to live, the thirst with which he looked at his native land, dreaming of ever escaping from captivity. He does not answer any of his questions, silently meeting his death. The black who baptized the youth decides to profess Mtsyri. The boy in paints tells about three days spent in the wild.

Only one gnaws at the soul of Mtsyri. Being still young, he promised himself that he would someday leave the walls of the monastery and find his way to his native land. He seems to be heading in the right direction - to the east, but in the end he just makes a big circle, returning to the place where he started his escape. He can not fully accept his fate: although people around him went out and raised him, but they belong to a different culture, and therefore Mtsyri can not call this land his home. A young man says to a monk that he always aspired to freedom in his soul. Mtsyri blames the black man for his salvation, it seems to him that it is better to die than live as a slave and an orphan.

"Mtsyri" summary (the last request of the hero)

Dying, Mtsyri asks to transfer him to one of the corners of the monastery garden, from where the mountains of his native land are visible. Leaving this world, he wants to at least see the closest to his soul. A young man does not regret a perfect act at all. On the contrary, he is proud of him. In the wild, he lived as his ancestors lived, in harmony with the wild nature.

Mtsyri is a romantic hero, striving for freedom, with a frenzied desire to get to his native land. And although he dies in a monastery, far from his native places, the young man will still achieve his goal, but in a different world.
