Mother's Day Holiday

The Mother's Day holiday has become known in Russia relatively recently. For the first time we celebrated it in 1998. There is no exact date for the celebration, since all countries celebrate it on different days. It is on this day that the future and established mothers, the successors of the family, the wet nurse and the keeper of the family hearth are at the center of events.

Mom is the first word spoken by a child. Mom - the most native, close and dear person in the life of each of us. Mother's Day gives us the opportunity to thank our loved ones again for the fact that they gave birth, raised and raised us.

The Mother's Day dates back to ancient Greece. The Greeks worshiped the mother of all the gods - Gae, gave her tribute. The Romans in turn revered and worshiped the Oriental Cybele. Celts from time immemorial considered their goddess Bridget.

The celebration became widely known in the 17th century. It was at this time in England that the first day of the weekend on the final Sunday of November for all servants and workers was introduced so that they could rest and see their families. Mothers and nurses were freed from all domestic duties on that day. It was also customary for the English to organize a big feast, at which all members of the family gathered from small to large. It was called the holiday "Mom's Sunday". The main dish on the festive table was a "mother's cake", which baked children for their parents. Eggs, flowers and gifts were also presented to mothers and grandmothers. This triumph is primordially Christian, more religious than folk, but in spite of everything, the day of mothers, grandmothers and nurse has taken root among other religions.

Tradition is soon rooted and became popular not only in England, but also on other continents. In the United States, for example, the Mother's Day was celebrated for the first time in 1872. With the light hand of a young Philadelphia resident, Anna Jervis, the holiday became a worldwide one. It happened because the persistent girl began to work in support of all mothers of America, regularly contacted the US legislature and achieved the fact that in 1910 the Mother's Day in Virginia became official. Anna herself believed that she had not had time to show her mother how much she loved her, during her lifetime, and so she wanted to do it even after her death. The idea of Anna was also supported by other women who helped her to get permission to set up this holiday in the congress.

A little later, thanks to President Woodrow Wilson, Mother's Day became a universal holiday of America and was celebrated annually. The idea was supported by the countries of Europe, Africa and Asia. In most countries of the world this day is celebrated at different times. The second Sunday in May was declared holiday in America, the United Arab Emirates, Mexico, Singapore, Hong Kong, India, also in Ukraine, Japan, Turkey, Germany, Italy and other countries. Unfortunately, in Russia, even after several decades, not all people know how and when the Mother 's Day is celebrated. By tradition, for Russians closer Women's Day - March 8, while Mom's day goes into the background.

According to the decree issued January 30, 1998 by the President of the Russian Federation BN. Yeltsin, the Mother's Day is celebrated annually. It unites the entire Russian society, reflects the ideas of good and gratitude to mothers.

We sincerely hope that Mother's Day will soon become a good tradition and will be celebrated in every Russian family every year, will raise the status of a mother woman and will be honored by society in general with International Women's Day and other holidays.

To date, Mamin's day is mentioned to young generations in kindergartens and schools, expanding the horizons of children, instilling in them love, respect and care for their parents and close people.
